I have a new list for Hostas that do good in the South. These selected Hostas do not need a long cold spell and will do well in southern gardens. Sometimes I worry about my Hostas because I don't always get a good winter and I am very surprised they even came up this year much less thrived.

The easiest way to determine the dormancy requirements is to observe which Hostas emerge the earliest in spring. There is generally a 75 day emergence date spread between Hosta cultivars in spring. Below is a list of those that emerge extremely early and would make good candidates for trialing in warm climates where there is little or no winter chilling. [quote]
My first three Hostas to emerge were all 'Sea Thunder' and they are on the list!
