I was thinking I could do that today and check the mailbox after dark, but last night was garbage night, so I have to bring the cans back in from the street. Drat! It's so cold that I dread the prospect of getting dressed.

I agree I agree I agree

On the very rare occasions when I'm not dressed in "work" clothes (sick), that's what I do, just throw a huge coat over what I'm wearing & go that route. But if I'm so sick I'm not wearing work clothes, then I'm not going outside, either. I'm usually dressed within 5 minutes of getting up on work days.. Sat/Sunday usually an hour later (I always go upstairs, check my email, wander here, check weather, check local news, then go back downstairs & drag DH outta bed). And since my work day is almost over, I get to go home & kick off my shoes & putz around the house. I will change clothes today (usually I don't), but I don't like putzing around in a dress.

All of my coats are knee length and at least a foot shorter than my nightgown, so that won't work. Hilarious! I have no choice but to put on a dress and freeze my knees.

Well since we have a farm with the usual chores a farm entails, PJs don't work well, but I assure you I look no more respectable!

Does it get that cold there? I usually don't start complaining about the cold until it's below freezing. This weekend was miserable.. high on Saturday was 11, Sunday the high was like 12. Got below 0 Sat/Sun/Mon. But I was so damned sick w/the flu, didn't bother me much as I didn't do anything other than get my MRI on Sunday. Otherwise, I was camped out on the couch or in bed.

Rita - Oh, finally got over it. I was sick for almost a week with that flu. It was horrible. That's why I'm now slowly getting back into the grind w/work outs. Tonight I'll get on the elliptical (I hope) for the first time since I was diagnosed w/my sciatica. I'm shooting for 20 minutes.. work it in slowly.

Much to my surprise, it turned out to be warmer outside (58 degrees) than inside (50 degrees), so no knees froze today. There's no denying that it's a colder winter than usual here, however. My big Pineapple Sage bush, which has been living happily here for more than 10 years, is a goner. I usually have to dump ice-cubes around my alpines and peonies in winter, but this year everything will bloom in spring without my help.

Zuzu - Just googled pineapple sage.. damn, I'd be mad if I'd lost that! That's gorgeous! Couldn't you have put a blanket over it to protect it from the cold? That's what I have to do in the spring time if we get a late frost (past Mother's day).

After 10 years, you never suspect that it won't survive. It's a Salvia, after all -- not a fragile tropical plant.

I moved all of the Clivia, Hibiscus, Mandevilla, Plumeria, and other tropical plants into the solarium because I expected them to suffer. We usually have four or five days of frost in winter. Now we seem to have four or five days of frost every week. And it came much earlier this year. I usually move things inside during Thanksgiving weekend, but this year we had a frost warning at the end of October, so I had a frantic day getting everything under cover before dark.

It still hasn't dipped below 25 degrees in my garden, so I'm likely to be in zone 9b rather than 9a, but it's the almost unbroken string of days with morning frost that's killing plants unexpectedly.

I bet the pineapple sage will come back from it's roots.
Lots of my succulents are taking a beating, I will have to remove many blackened leaves from all my aeoniums but they will all spring back.

Been exercising ever day. I am done with my exercises today. I am wondering if I should go take some aspirin now or later. I can feel it everywhere.

First I did 55 minutes on the Gizelle. Two twenty minute sessions and then that odd 15 minutes of the crossways scizzors motion. I really worked on increasing the range of the scizzors motion by placing my feet further apart on the petals and workling that way. OWWW, owww I can feel that! Sad So that is why the 15 minutes. I couldn't do twenty! Oh well, I will just keep working on it.

Then it was free weights day today. I decided I needed to get more results quicker. So on the core arm exercises I upped my 5 pound dumbells to 7 1/2 pound dumbells by adding my 21/2 pound ankle weights to my wrists. OWW, oww oww. I can really feel that! And I did three reps of ten counts.

On some of the exercises, like the over the head triceps raise, I had to do it with the 5 pound dumbells only. I can't use more. Can barely do it with the fives. I also have a side arm triceps raise and I use only the 5 pounds on those also. It is as much as I can manage.

The upped weights really jumped. From 5 to 7/1/2 really feels much heavier. But I really want results and I want them quicker. More weight will mean more muscle. And I couldn't do more weight before this. I had to work my way up starting with 3 pounds. And I really should still be on the 5 pound weights as those are not anywhere easy for me. Just getting impatient with my exercise. I want results! I want them now! Whistling Rolling my eyes. Angry

It will be fine. I just get impatient. I want instant results!

Trying to eat more heathy too. Just finished dinner. A small steak with asparagus and beets. I haven't had asparagus in a long time so forgot just how good it tastes. I finished all the asparagus but couldn't eat up all the beats. I do love beets and will just have the rest as a snack later.
