I wanted to post a couple of pictures of my amaryllis plants. They are going dormant so hopefully I will see blooms in Spring. None have produced blooms in 2 years. I also rescued a Red Lion amaryllis bulb today.

Cameron, I hope you get lots of blooms in the spring. That was nice of you to rescue Red Lion, that is a very nice one. It was my first one, then I got a white last January, after their rest both are getting bloom scapes. This fall of course I wanted more, so I added Papillio, Red Pearl, Comet, Apple Blossom and Aphrodite, all getting ready to bloom. Big Grin

Thanks Margaret. I hope to see blooms this year. Mine have been actively growing since last Winter. i finally put them in a dark room to make them go dormant. Its great that yours are producing scapes, and you have a very nice collection. Papillio is so beautiful, I saw Aphrodite at Walmart this year but I didn't buy it. I'm regretting that decision lol. I'll definitely look for that cultivar next year. I currently have Apple Blossom, Minerva, Best Seller,Vittatum and my newest Red Lion. I should have done the same thing as you Paul. I didn't know I had to stop watering them in October, maybe that's why mine haven't bloomed. I stopped watering a couple of weeks ago. I look forward to seeing your Red Pearl bloom Margaret.

Cameron, I hope when Best Seller and Vittatum blooms you will add photos to the database, I just checked and there is no photo for Best Seller and Vittatum isn't listed.

When my white hybrids leaves wouldn't turn yellow after weeks of no water, I took it out of the pot, I had to moisten the planting mix to get it off the bulb it was so dry, I then washed the bulb and cleaned it up and laid it on it's side on paper towels on top of my dryer in the laundry room, the leaves yellowed a lot faster that way, then I cut the leaves to about 3" and stored it in a cool dark cupboard.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the Best Seller blooms. i added a picture of my vittatum bloom from 2010. i'll definitely try that for my amaryllis bulbs because despite being in dark area with no water for 2 weeks they still have plenty of green leaves lol. That's a beautiful bloom JT.

Wow your Red Pearl is breath taking Margaret. That's on my list for amaryllis plants this year. I rinsed off all of my bulbs and now I'm letting them dry. i found a couple of new baby bulbs on my Vittatum amaryllis.

Nice pictures Margaret....my camera wouldn't pick up the almost black sheen on Red Pearl either.

Thank you Cameron. How nice you have baby bulbs. How many years before I see baby bulbs on my Amaryllis.

Thank you Paul, I took a lot of photos, at different angles, in the sun, those were the best, of course I will keep taking more hoping to capture the sheen. Rolling on the floor laughing Maybe if we had some sort of filter, but I can't add lenses anyway. Shrug!

My vittatum amaryllis plants seem to reproduce faster than my others. I've had Minerva and Apple Blossom for 2 years now but they haven't produced any offsets yet.

Thanks JT, I am going to add them to the database when I get time. Black Pearl sounds lovely, I checked the database and it isn't there. Sad

I think Black Pearl is one of those amaryllis that has two names. If I remember correctly BP and Benfica are the same plant. My camera doesn't do justice to this one .It's really dark.Thumb of 2013-01-04/gone2seed/3cd852

JT, that is a gorgeous red, and yes it sure is hard to capture the true color of our blooms.
