the ones I know are 4 o'clocks, larkspur, and white geraniums .. they attract Japeneese beetles and poison them.. bad news is they can be poisonous to people and animals .. so caution should be taken where they are planted.. anyone know of any others?

It would be nice if there was a trap plant for the Lily beetle which has come to Calgary in the last few years?
I should have lots of larkspur from my fall seeding. I do have a few white geraniums? pelargoniums?
Four O'clocks do not do well for me.--I think I am getting poor seeds.

I try to get Pyrethrum plants growing with delphiniums, to deter that moth that destroys delphiniums.

White and yellow roses are said to attract them (but not poison them); although I've really only noticed them extensively on the yellow ones. Twice a day, at least, I need to pick the JBs off of my yellow roses and dispose of them.

Chard, lettuce and Bok Choy attract slugs. From miles around, it seems!

Ah, another reason to plant nasturtiums! (Besides the fact that they're pretty and taste good!) Wonder if I could get some to overwinter on my back porch, which always gets infested with aphids? Interesting stuff!

Caroline, maybe you ARE getting poor seeds for your 4 o'clocks. I once bought a package online and not a single seed germinated! And I tried them all. I'd offer to send you some of mine, but I'm not sure if we can send seeds from here to Canada. Anyone know?

Flower seeds are okay still I think???
But I have some four O'clock seeds coming from a different seed company so I'll try those.
Last year, I tried seeds from several companies and none gave germination.
I shall look for roots when the bulbs etc come in.

Do you soak your 4 o'clock seeds before planting? That does help, I've found. And then they should sprout in about a week, at least on a heat mat they will.

I soak them, but did not use a heat mat.
Maybe I'll try that this year.

Woofie: " I'd offer to send you some of mine, but I'm not sure if we can send seeds from here to Canada. Anyone know?"

I've done it Woofie, no problem. I've traded with people in England, France, Belgium, Canada, Australia... I just don't identify with a big notice that says "Seeds. Handle with Care" or anything. Just address the envelope and mail. Never been a problem to send or receive seeds from these places.

Shrug! You could try. Worst that could happen, the seeds would be confiscated. Or maybe they'd go through just fine.

I get small orders of seeds from US suppliers all the time.
Flower seeds do not seem to have restrictions?
Veges seem restricted according to seed sizes:
Only up to 500 grams (about 1 pound) for small seeds ( smaller than radish seeds)?
There is a 5 Kg restriction on larger seeds such as peas, beans etc.?

But some USA suppliers do not ship to Canada---too expensive to comply with Canadian rules?

Maybe it's just actual plants that are a problem? Anyway, if you ever decide you'd like some of my seeds, I'm willing to chance it! Hilarious! And I really think that 4 o'clock seeds don't like either extended or extreme cold. I grow lots of them every year, they dump seeds everywhere, and I have never, ever had a single volunteer here.

Thanks Woofie! I ordered from a completely different company this year so I'll see if any germinate.
