I'm new to this site and see that there are a lot of folks with wonderful experience gathering here & sharing ideas....so I would love to have your input on which white banded red violet/purple amoenas you think are great.

There isn't a lot of room left in my iris & daylily bed, so I could use some help narrowing down my short list. I'm looking for vivid color, strong performance & vigor from whatever cultivar I choose. I would love to hear your comments on the following varieties:

Daring Deception
Dance to Paris
Gypsy Geena
Gracious Curves
Crimson Cloud
Ringo

Welcome to ATP I have grown Gypsy Geena,Gracious Curves, & Crimson Cloud they were all nice flowers but they did not grow well for me here in Iowa. I had no increase so I did not buy anymore of them. I added Daring Deception and Dance to Paris this year so they are to new to give a yah or nah yet but they both looked to be good plants in Oregon. I think another one you might consider that is in that color range you described would be Bravery by Joe Ghio it is Outstanding and growing very well here.

I have Gypsy Geena and Dance To Paris. Gypsy Geena grows pretty well and blooms heavily. The only real problem I've had with it is that it seems to be more susceptible to leaf spot than most varieties. Planted Dance To Paris in 2010, but it has never bloomed or grown very well. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if it fails to survive the winter this year.

Don't have Daring Deception (yet ) but did plant its sibling, Strawberry Freeze, this summer. It is too soon to judge, but it looked really good this fall, a healthy looking plant with abundant increase.

Ringo is an oldie, but a very good grower.

Aruba, thank you for the suggestion of 'Bravery.' I hadn't seen that one before, but your are right - it's the color range I'm looking for. I really like the ruffles. May I ask where you purchased it? Your comments on the other cultivars performance are very helpful too.

Irisarian, thanks for the Ringo comment that it's a very good grower. Does it have any disease issues that you are aware of? Is it a prolific bloomer?

none, but it is an older plant & flowers is not as ruffly as the newer ones.

DARING DECEPTION is a good dl.

Heather I bought it from the Hybridizer Joe Ghio @ Bay view gardens if you do not already recieve his catalog send him a email @ [email protected] and have him put you on the list. I think his catalog comes out in late Feb. or early March and he has some of the best plants out there.
