I was fascinated to see how the different sempervivum handle heavy frost in the raised beds.
I took these photos this morning.
Hart 8, with very smooth waxy leaves which seem to repel most of the frost.

Raureif with cilia lining the leaves.

Neida with heavy cilia covering the leaves. Just look at the frost it gathers.

Nope, no die back with semps. They love the winter cold, as long as there is no drying wind. Calm and cold is what we have.
Another day of 'Land of the frost.'. It is beautiful outside, as long as I am indoors. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Thank you Greg.
Diana lives in a hilly area a few miles outside town, so gets some really beautiful frost.

Love the frost on Diana's pic. I must confess to be worried about my semps this year. A week ago we had temps as high as 67 F and completely lost all the snow cover. Last night it was 0 F. While the plants love the cold, that's a bit extreme without the snow cover. Can't wait for spring or some real snow to protect the plants.

My goodness twit. Is that usual weather for your area? That is some fluctuation in temps.
I think Chris had that happen.
We are in what is considered unseasonably cold weather for this time of year.

I'm with you, ready for spring.

Yes Twit, we had mid-40s last weekend and all the snow melted. Then we had 3 days in a row of temps no warmer than 8 deg. during the days, down to -10 at night with windchills at 40 below zero. I'm worried about mine too!

We too are getting swings in temps, from below zero to 60s today... Supposed to return to seasonal norms of 40s and 50s early next week, maybe even some snow. We need the moisture.

These are not real good pictures but they were taken today

Hurray! Marilyn, Marilyn, can you hear me?
The first photo is showing a hint of life in the center. I think Greg is right, this spring it will regenerate. Hurray!
As will the sedum. Be sure if it has been dry to give them a drink of water. Don't let them parish from dehydration.
Both Grigg's Surprise and Oddity fine. Be careful this spring that they just don't reach out and grab you from pure exuberance of life. Big Grin
