I made a bold public statement, more than a month ago, that this would be the 'best' Claremont lily show ever..!..Not long after that, the weather gods, fired in every possible negative, extreme heat,weeks of non stop wind, fires and cold snaps and many a curse flew from my lips,., ..very worrying, concerns were raised about few entrants and entries,.Come Friday, I became concerned as I was one of the early entrants, but upon my arrival ,with a 2nd truckload of entries, faith was restored,Many entries and of an extremely high standard., ..Saturday proved even better, even though I saw little of it, as I was preparing refrigerated liliums from as far as 13 days earlier,. but at closing of entries and commencement of judging, I realised, the 'quality' bar had been raised and this was going to be a 'brutal' show of 'the best',.Good publicity 'both days' meant good attendance, Sunday's, doubling Saturday,.,.you little beauty,.I managed a champion stem entry and many a win in seedling flower, asiatic flower, trumpet flower and seedling stem and trumpet stem, 2 wins with Dahlias,.,Coming home Sunday eve, covered in pollen, exhausted, running on adrenalin, with a packet of Larry Daihl's Thunderbolt cross seeds, somebody slipped me..Am I happy?-You Betcha

It was a fantastic show! I'm really pleased to have come along and been involved. I hope I can come back next year And a great team of people you have on board - so much energy and knowledge. Thank you to everyone that has built up the Claremont show into such a welcoming celebration of lilies and the summer garden.

I wish I'd had my camera - some lilies that really caught my eye included a green trumpet, and a L. henryi-style flower in white. As for the floral art... i've never before seen shark jaws paired with lilies, but the 'blood' stained teeth really made my day.

Looks like everyone pulled together and made a nice show.

Ameteur lilium stem - With Conc'D'Or,.,.,my best stem,,,Silk Roads were not even in the hunt

ok ..I donated 'LanKon as a 4th raffle prize..The lovely old lady that just a while ago collected the pot, from here, had not long ago lost her husband, but was overwhelmed by the show..There are some great stories

Lorn, I can hold my head high in seedling raised trumpet stem-I entered a 'Gavin Gray' [West Australia ] special 3 header-this isnt it

Della won a biggie too[but not saying much about it] 100% strike rate.. 1entry-1 champion this isnt it

Every section was 'choc a block'

The quality was very high

Every category[except species] was well represented,.[remember, its been hot]

Hahaha - I think the phrase "this isn't it" is about to enter my lexicon with all associations attached. Brilliant

(And I took along one stem and one flower - basically a bud still opening, but by judging time it was almost there, and managed to win its little division in novice - I haven't ever entered anything at Claremont before - and the stem won novice stem... so I'm looking forward to some special bulbs from the generous sponsor of said division Anthony sure donates alot in time, effort and goods!)

I must say I prefer to see full stems than rather a bloom.

And why is it I see non-lily exhibits? Like roses and gladioli ?
