I never put that together - thanks Blue Fox...now I know why sometimes they are the toughest things to take off without hurting the plant or leaf Hilarious!

Once the baby begins to grow the leaf may die off (as in the one photo) but this is nothing to worry about Smiling
Cheers

Thumbs up great babies Big Grin
I hope I can have some too. Green Grin!

Aww, sorry to hear the first leaf turned black..but you have another one, so hopefully it will respond much better. And that is why I really prefer getting leaf cuttings when it is warmer weather, sometimes during cold season it is just too much stress for the succulents. Good luck once more!

Hi tarev,
The other leaf is still green now.
It has been a week.
I also take another cutting too.
I hope the mother plant is not angry with me. Green Grin!

But I have not seen any root yet.

I got a jade leaf that fell off about two weeks ago, had it callused and I decided to try and see how fast it will set roots...like you I am on a waiting stage. I just wanted to compare as well how slow or how fast it will do it. My first attempt to do it during winter time..as I have said in earlier parts of this thread, I do prefer doing it in spring Smiling So let's all compare later on how our leaf cuttings progress Big Grin

Hi Greg,
Little thing in the center of the photo is not a root. I don't know what it is. Big Grin

BlueFox said:I find that they root faster/better/with less rotting if the mother plant is dry too - and, it's easier to pull the leaves off, they just fall off in your hand.

wow, that's a good point. Thumbs up
So, I should not water the mother plant if I want to take cuttings. Big Grin

Hi all, just thought I'd show you an updated photo - when I posted on Jan 16th I pulled several leaves of my E. 'Capt Hay' here is what it looked like today before I planted it. For me leaving the leaf on the surface of the soil, and under lights or in sun, seems the best way to propagate Smiling
How cute is that with the little purple roots!!

That's coming Arif! Although, I had a great idea...coming soon! I'm going to make a long skinny "trough" that's light weight and can hang vertical but come inside onto my windowsill in winter! Made from aloes and echeveria! And probably 8 inches wide x 4 feet long! It would be very striking and I have the windowsill if I move plants around! I'll of course post photos when the time comes!
Cheers (the little purple guy will have to go into something else!)

Rolling on the floor laughing I had to get that one in but I like the vision which you are painting. A remarkable idea if it can be done. I think you should put three or four layers of chicken wire netting in front out of sync in order to reduce the size of the holes plus put in a layer of moss or coir to retain the growing mixture. Now what to use as a mixture which should be quick draining, retain moisture for maximum time and still be light weight? This gravel and sand combo wont do due to weight and anyway it will run out like water from a convenient place. What is the performance of these plants in a quick draining organic mix, any idea? You will still have to add some lime sand to keep them happy.
Regards,
Arif.

Are you sure it is not cold and clammy and all the ball joints grease as it is is way past use by day Blinking . Hard and creaky. How is the weather like, if it is warm and toasty, go for it if the grease melts Smiling .

I am thinking of getting something made on wheels to move pots. Two wheels, slip platform under pot, tilt back and trundle off. You might have seen it at train stations but they are heavy duty. Something light. The name of this device is not coming into my mind just now.

Arif.
