Wanted it to settle in without the cold, cold so put it in the garage and other cold rooms for couple of weeks and then put it outside in the day and covered w/shade cloth at nite now that it is just in the 40's late nites. Hopefully it can stay in partial sun outside because am trying to keep indoors free of plants since not too much sun in house. Even that gasteria/hawortha planter is outside under the house eaves.
Gotta have those projects to keep us sane during winter.BTW, how was the semp browisng appointment you had today...
waiting with baited breath, I am... Sticking tongue out

Bev that is really cool, I love how it looks now but I can imagine that it will fill in and some of them hang over and it will be really a show stopper!!

Ooo, it's adorable!
I spend too much time in thrift stores trying to resist stuff...may have to rethink that, lol!

Bev, your planter looks very good indeed. Lovey dubby

I think the Echeveria you are asking about is E. 'Harry Butterfield'.

Thanks for the hearts and info, Tee!
and Renee, sometimes when you see something good, it is silly to pass it up especially when you are ready for it and then you can't find it again. I am especially encouraged by my husband in thrift/collectible/antique stores. He knows if I buy something (like the 3 tier basket above) and sand it and paint it and plant it, he'll know where I am: in the garage for at least 2 weeks (boy, the sanding was rough) Angry

Glad you like it, Serse. Washing the dishes by hand and looking outside at the finished project makes me feel good. Well that's one project off the list...NEXXT....!! Hilarious!

I'm sooo onto something else! But, I did go look at my shower thingy, and wonder if I need a new one (to trade this one out for plants!) I'd have to figure out a way to hang it, or use a base to stand it up, mine is the spring loaded type which pushes against the ceiling...won't work outside or off the bathtub! Big Grin See, planning and thinking all the time!

Alright...so here are 2 things I'm going to plant into...I'm going to reinforce the window boxes and then plant them with Aloe and echeveria and they'll lay flat (horizontal) during winter, but hang on a wall in full sun during the summer! Put together they're 4 feet of growing area, so it should look pretty nice! Thumb of 2013-02-06/gg5/14cc53
The rock was drilled for a fountain (no Bev, not one of my forgotten projects!!haha - bought it for a mere $5 bucks) will probably plant semps in it!
Thumb of 2013-02-06/gg5/e62e7c
Cheers, more photos when these are finished! Big Grin
Serse, what did you decide regarding vertical growing?? I'm curious, I realized that I have several metal plant shelves that I bring inside during winter, my plan is to hang vertical mini green walls off of these, so they have airflow! Thumbs up

Well, you are going to be one busy little yellow head fellow. The projects look like fun. Wish you lived nearby here, I would love to help you on those projects!! People here like... (my head is turning right and left)..FLOWERS and won't even talk to me about plants. I met a guy who loved his vegetable gardening and looked at my stuff and said, "You can't eat them, what's the point?" I did finally meet a woman who went to the Succulent Extravaganza (in Castroville hosted by that Robin guy who's going to talk about Vertical gardening in Seattle) and was totally overwhelmed by all the succulents available.

I am still very interested in the idea...I need to find the right frame/container and I will definitely be making one. I need a few more plants, though, to be able to fill it. I may have to postpone until a month or so from now to actually plant it. I think the pegs on the back sound like a good idea to keep it off the wall, but still not sure how exactly to accomplish an indoor vertical garden. I love them, though, so regardless of obstacles, you will be seeing a vertical planter from me sooner or later!

Bev I cannot tell you how many people see photos of my semps and ask that...I just assume they look so luscious that people can't imagine not eating them!! (but that's probably all in my little yellow head!)
Serse, there are many many photos/ideas online! Whatever one can do with wire, or wood, one can cover it in succulents Thumbs up Take your time and make it right! I rushed through my first one, and it wasn't right, luckily I had the time to redo it and didn't loose any plants. I had made it out of wood and it began to come apart within a month Thumbs down
Cheers

I have woken up with "brilliant" ideas which when re-looked at in the light of day, really aren't brilliant, or even good! Rolling on the floor laughing
By the way, how long does it take you to water your plants? It takes me about 30 mins...seems like a long time Confused
