Sweetness still airs her pretty little bushy flavor in the garden. She's got some deer/bunny repellant sprayed on the leaves, and two upright rosemary bushes planted 6" away on each side.

I've got three buds, only one of which was there when I bought her. The largest should burst open this week or next. Which begs my next Roses For Dummes (RFD) question.. :)

There's been no new green growth, while the green leaves that were sprouting when I bought her have continued to grow. I've watered frequently, and fertilized once (with a Bayer blend liquid fert that doubles as pest/disease control also). Do I chop the other two smaller buds, and encourage green growth? Or does it even make a difference?

If I can get a cheapie camera for myself, or borrow BF's camera, I'll try to get some garden shots to share. It ain't much, but given the climate and my schedule, it oughta look really awesome in a few more weeks when the annuals grow up.

TIA
Jennifer

Nipping off the buds would encourage the roots to grow, but I don't think it would have any effect on foliage. I personally never have the heart to nip buds.

I hope the Bayer doesn't cause any problems for you, or I hope you at least didn't use it at full strength. Fertilizing a newly planted rose is not a good idea. Newly planted roses can have tender roots that get burned by fertilizer.

Well she's made a liar out of me..

Got home last night to a purple bud looking like it's ready to burst, the other two still growing in size...

And a new sprout of leaf growth in a spot totally away from the buds.

Almost as if she's thumbing her nose at me.. "I insist on growing!!"

:) YAY! Hurray!

The bud was purple purple last night..
First few flower petals were wiggling out.

I can't WAIT to get home tonight & see it!!!
If it's going to storm like they're threatening, I'm cutting it & bringing it inside. :)

(No, I'm not excited about this.. not one bit!)
Hurray! Hurray! Thumbs up

I ought to be able to grab a picture of the first bloom tonight.

Now I just need to figure out what the webby stuff is that has appeared in between the leaves. Pulled it off last night, in two spots, but I have a hunch it's bugs of some sort.

*note to self - buy bug spray this weekend for sweetness*

Spider mites, perhaps. They always made webbycrap on my mom's spiderplants. But, if it's outside, see if it's spiders. If it's spiders, leave 'em alone as they'll eat bad buggies! I think it's too early for caterpillars to be cocooning.

Is that your picture or one you found online? Suggestion (dumb one, but, from me, EVERYTHING'S DUMB! Big Grin ): Try to take a pic of the undersides of the leaves.. in the little nook where the leaf connects to the plant.. even if you can't see anything with the naked eye, the camera will pick things up and, since almost 100% of all cameras now are like 10megapixel, the blown up image will show what you have. Found this out when I took pictures of my goldfinches.. I didn't see the second bird in the tree when I was taking the shots, but when I downloaded the images, then I saw there was a second bird!

That's a picture I found online.

And, no not dumb suggestion, at all... I wish I could.. but

Thumbs down My camera croaked last year. I haven't gotten a new one. Any pictures I get now are limited to my 3.2mp camera on my phone.

(And I chose "thumbsdown" because there isn't a "boohoo crying" face. Need to ask Dave about that one.)

And, if I may suggest, this camera here:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001SER49M/

It's a Canon SD1200. This is one in particular has a blue case. I have this camera after researching and studying and researching a little bit more. I wanted a camera that was small enough to fit in my pocket, sturdy enough to go out into a rainstorm, have a good zoom, has stability mode (for shaking hands), and, most of all, EASY TO USE. This camera ROCKS. I *LOVE* mine! I've taken some totally kick-butt pictures with it. For instance, here's one of my dogs, Wolfgang. It's got very few buttons, the LCD screen is true-to-picture, and it has like 3 modes: Auto, Movie, & "Know-What-You're-Doing" mode, which I never use because I don't know what I'm doing!

This camera has it's own type battery & comes with a recharger (takes like 3 hours to fully charge). You can take TONS of pictures before the battery runs out (like 200-400 pictures or like 30 minutes of video). It takes all sizes of SD cards (I got a 16gig SD card for my birfday), easily talks to any kind of computer (I use Winderz XP, Winderz 7, and Mac OSX Snow Leopard). It's a KILLER camera!

Here's Wolfgang's nose. Make sure you enlarge it just to see the awesomeness of the zoom! And that was with no fancy thingies, just hit the zoom button.

I didn't read about the nose before I saw the picture.

"First thought? Holy carp that's the UGLIEST picture I've ever seen?!? What is that? Maybe it's a picture of a wrinkly forehead, or a... OH! That's a NOSE!"

Silly me
I'll go read & constipate.. uhh.. I mean concentrate now.
