I see that the S&H cost from PaperMart is almost the same for 3 cases as 9 cases.

The prices are great for cases of 1,000 bags, but they only ship FedEx Ground, so the shipping cost is $12 for 3 cases, or $13 for 9 cases.

I only want 3-4 cases, and I'm not eager to add $3-4 to the cost of each case, so does anyone else want thousands and thousands of Ziploc bags?

The Parcel Post shipping from me to you for 1 to 3 pounds is likely to be $5 to $12, depending on how far you live from WA.

So it's still tough to beat Wal-Mart for 2"x3" bags.

But these are available in many sizes, 2 mil or 4 mil, and might be higher quality.

They also have some good prices on a wide variety of glassine bags: both normal flat ones (envelopes) and also "gussetted" bags

like :
½ pound 3" wide x 1.75 gusset x 6.75 tall = $17.60 / 1,000 1.8 ¢ each

The smallest flat glassine bags are:
2" x 3.5" = $13 / 1,000 = 1.3 ¢ each

The cases are 1,000.

I looked at Parcel Post costs, and even 2 pounds from FL to WA would add $10 to a 2-pound, $7 order. I'm guessing TX to WA would still be $7 or $8, which makes it marginal.

I think that site's shipping (FedEx Ground) only becomes economical if the order gets up to 20+ pounds.

Anyway, it would be crazy for me to place to place the order ande then m ail 10-pounds arfound the country.

If you or the guy who emailed me get together a big order, I might ask to piggyback 2 pounds onto your order, but I should withdraw my offer to run it.

Parcel Post ain't cheap!

(Here was my post before I started adding in the USPS costs...)

The case size is always 1,000, it seems. I use so few of those big ones that I wouldn't want to split a case.

I see 57 kinds of 2 mil or 4 mil zipper bags in the "food" section. I think 4 mil would be heavier than you want.

They don't list "quart" or "gallon, just Width x Height (in side dimensions). You would have to measure a quart and gallon bag you already have to see what is similar.

http://www.papermart.com./Prod...

5"x8" are 1,000 for $19 ... around 2 cents each
10" x 10" are 1,000 for $48
12" x 12" are 1,000 for $71

Remember that those cases will weigh 6, 16 or 24 pounds, so there will be shipping cost from them to me plus cost from me to you. It might be smart for whoever buys the heaviest cases to place the order, and then we would re-imburse that person for re-shipping the small cases to us.
It looks like adding 16 more pounds to an 8 pound order brings S&H up to $$17.66 so 2/3 of that would cost you $11.77. ($19 for 1,000 5"x8" bags plus almost $12 S&H ... $31 or 3 cents each.

USPS Parcel Post (renamed Standard Post, I think) could charge $17 to $34 for 16 pounds, depending on how far it has to go.

Postage is a big part of the total cost!

If you decide which cases you might want to buy, and we find enough people to make an order worthwhile, we can figure out the cheapest way to run the buy.

The very most I might want to get, and I'm not sure i'm up for it, would be:

Ziplock - 1-1/2 X 2 2Mil .6 lbs/case $3.46 x 2
Ziploc - - 2 X 3 2Mil 1.4 lbs/case $5.67 x 2 ... total $18.26

(4 pounds by itself is way too much to pay for S&H. However, USPS would charge $7.50 to $10.50 to ship 4 pounds Parcel Post, and that is also a big up-charge if someone else does the buy and mails mine back to me.)

Postage hurts!

(Now I figure there is no way I can beat the Wal-Mart price for 2x3": Ziplocs, so at most I would buy 1.2 pounds of 1.5x2" Ziplocs.)

Thanks Rick. I am still trying to figure out whats cheaper than the grocery or dollar store. Even with the postage it would be cheaper than the grocery store. I need them to ship my bare-roots in. I will talk to my friends and my DG buddies.
But whatever you decide to do I understand.
Thanks

If you do place an order, I would love to add some of the 1.5" x 2" Ziplocs to it, and share the cost of shipping from PaperMart to you (and all of the cost from you to me, of course!).

I have a yen for these big glassine bags, but not really enough "need" to justify spending $20+.

½ pound size Gusseted Glassine Bags
3" wide x 1.75 gusset x 6.75 tall
$17.60 / 1,000
1.8 ¢ each
4.8 pounds per case
