We went to the UC Botanical Garden at Berkeley over the weekend...and we love their plant collections, for sure worth another visit when the other plants are back from dormancy. In the meantime just sharing the photos of some of their cacti/succulent collection:
These ones are in a heated and very dry greenhouse: Sorry for some reason my photos goes sideways even if they are right side up in my hard drive

That seems to be right Hetty, photos I took using a camera phone hmmm interesting, but I do download first to our hard drive before I upload. And my upload to other websites are coming out right side up, only here in ATP that it is getting lopsided..sadly..
I especially love the Aloe dorothea. The deep red they can get on those smooth succulent leaves always reminded of those old vinyl seats in diners, lol.
I finally got one of the plants from a local nursery. Some nearby it had mites, so they doused it for me but I've been taking my time getting it into the ground for fear of infecting any other plants. Does anyone know the optimal time to plant aloes, or does it matter?
Thanks Hetty.... I went ahead and put it in the ground yesterday, no blooms on this one.
It does appear to be much more cold-sensitive than my other aloes; it got bitten quite badly by the low temps we had a couple of weeks ago. Hope it survives.
