I've lived in the south my entire life so I know of what Tee speaks in regards to humidity! Our humidity here in the Daytona Beach area ranges from 60% to 90%, depending on the time of year ... and I do a happy dance at the rare times when the humidity level drops below 50%! Green Grin!

Thank intense heat combined with humidity can be a death warrant for some plants.

Well that is a very exclusive zone Lynn but if some one writes down 80% humidity and the reader takes it as a Year round sauna then. You all agree that the humidity does come down.
Australian Gold Coast, nothing much there except for Banksia and Wattle, these two love that climate but you won't love them.
Central West China, rice but that is not the object is it?
Central South America. Now that sounds interesting. Flat savanna. Look up Flora of North Argentina and South Brazil, you might find a treasure trove of plants there.

Got 2700 climate model years to my credit. Tee if I raise climate topics it is only because of my interest with the subject nothing to do with anyone on a personal level.

Arif.

Since this is a website in the USA, the South would hardly be considered an "exclusive zone".

Still waiting to hear a counter-proposal that covers every place and micro-climate in the world. Smiling

South America is full of amazing plants that we in other climatic conditions would love to grow. That savanna area is extremely rich in flora and fauna but the links are on my kaput machine. Other then that if you want muggy, then look at the flora of Sri Lanka or Far East Asia. Here also links problem or I would have sent them. Then we have in some corner the Australian Forum which you can take a look at.

http://www.srilankaview.com/fl... Look up your area don't go looking at flora of Mount Kandy, stick to the coastal regions.

Do a search of the countries according to the Koppen map and you may find a lot of rot proof plants.
As to when we migrate to some thing better ask Dave. Rick has done his part and that thread is hibernating. Want to wake it up?

Arif.

I think the entire topic comes down to the value of being able to designate a plant as being tolerant of humid conditions, even if it isn't humid year round. Thumbs up

I have been saying that for a long time that, that area reminds me of the tropics due the Gulf plus Gulf Stream. She wants to grow Apples and Strawberries while missing out on an entire range of tropical fruits. I have tried Kiwi fruit many times but failed. Lynn it might do in your area though. You have the right amount of humidity without extreme heat. Sugar Apple, we had these growing wild in Karachi and I used to love it. Papaya Bananas wont agree with Tee's area though, to cold. Even though she sounds my age and not yours Shrug! grouchy. At my age grouchy, cranky what will happen at your age. I shudder at the thought. Circumstances make a person Confused .
Tee I tip my hat to you. cheer up.

Arif.

Tee,

Is humidity tolerant box the same box for a heat tolerant plant? I've come across plants that are heat tolerant and didn't check the humidity tol. box, since I thought it wasn't the same thing. Confused
Welcome to the Agastache and Salvias Forum!

You can have heat without humidity. As in the Arizona desert. Hot, but dry, humidity (moisture)in the air
The southern states, tropics, etc., can be very hot and the air is also filled with moisture (humidity).

Above is for Tee to search what grows in South Brazil. I will delve deeper and post a few more relevant.
Just go click the map of Brazil or search deeper.
