OK, so for several months I've been noticing a house nearby which is under construction it has semps in the front yard. They seem like a classic variety (very typical house leek looking things) Anyway, I have wanted to ask the owners if I could take some, even though that part of the yard hasn't been worked on, I didn't want them to think I was a "semp geek/freak" and every time I've seen the one guy he seems busy and I didn't want to pester him, so I said nothing...I go out of my way to walk by this house so I can see if anything is being done with the front garden and to maybe catch someone when they're not so busy! So this evening, its late, getting dark, its raining (not pouring but not misting either) and I see - oh horror - they've taken up the semp bed, all the semps are gone except for one that was laying on the sidewalk! Then I notice that there are lots there, they're just under the soil, they've just turned these semps under! I couldn't believe it! The nerve!! Since I'm a dog walker I always carry bags, so I pull out a little plastic bag and begin going all through the front yard and probably mumbling under my breath, and its raining and getting dark...the owner happened to be on the front porch and was open mouthed just staring at me and wondering what am I doing? I said "Oh hi, I've been meaning to ask you about these sempervivums, but I didn't and now you've turned them under" He says "What? What are you talking about?" "All these Hens and chicks have been just killed!" I said emotionally! He started laughing and said - "oh that's what you're collecting in my yard! Go ahead, you should have asked me, I'd have given them to you!"
Moral - it pays to ask because you never know, you may be in for even more embarrassment when you try and "rescue" the semps you love so much Sticking tongue out Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I got them from one of mamajack's co-ops a couple years ago. Nothing seems to damage them or the labels. What Chris does is also a great way to do plant tags, and less costly now that I can't get them through a co-op.

This one is interesting: http://www.yuccado.com/doohick...
These are the ones I have: http://www.metalgardenmarkers....

And I use the P-touch label maker with the labels that have the extra strength adhesive for harsh environments. None of the labels have come undone.

Here is the new photo of Olivette. Yours is more yellow, but that can be due to your soil retaining more moisture than my fast draining raised beds. Time will tell.

Peace to all!
Chris...yeah, kindof embarrassing (went back by this morning) what he didn't say is that they were getting a mulch delivery today, so what I got last night was all I was going to get, unless I want to dig through a thick layer of mulch to get them? (hmmm i do have a pair of old boots and old kitchen "yellow" gloves, that should work!) Hilarious!
OK it sure seemed like more last night, most of it was dirt sadly Sad I only have 4 large ones and some babies - oh well!

How wonderful to see you here again. Group hug
Sorry for the exuberance, I just really missed you. *Blush*

I fell in love with your wall and bricked patio the very first time I saw it. And it just gets better every year.
I didn't know that Sedum kamtschaticum would reseed like that. Hmmm, now I will have to harvest the seed heads this year and scatter them around in new places.
Is the yellowish one Sedum 'Angelina'? I love that one, every tiny piece of it will root, but so far mine has not seemed to reseed itself. I will have to check closer, it could be doing that and I just didn't realize it.
Can't wait to see new photos of the wall.

Lynn's tip! I have a few containers that don't have grit and it makes a big difference. We have had weeks of rain and then a week of freezing fog. Thumbs down
Not complaining, just a fact. I see the weather over the rest of the country so cold, way worse then here.

Wow looks good Spring! What is the one in the second photo - I love it! looks like it ends in "ene" so I was thinking 'Silverene' but that would surprise me...
Anyway - I went back (of course) and there were people putting sod down, as I was standing there (NOT in my yellow kitchen gloves) I asked them if they ran across any Hens and chicks while they were working (one of the guys had several that he was taking to his wife - very cool!) but they'd found most of them and so now I have a goodly amount and these ones from today are a bit different looking so I think I have at least 2 different types! Bring on the NOID's huh!! I am officially a Semp freak! Yes, It is 'Angelina' The wall looks good but I keep loosing some plants I think some of them don't get enough light because of the plants growing in the lower bed in front of the back wall. I have very few pictures from last summer. My lap top crashed and I lost most of last summers pictures. I have several thousand older pics in back up but not too many from last summer.
