I should have posted that link, Chris, because I knew your article was there. Got sidetracked when Woofie mentioned Carol and never got back on track. Multi-tasking and multi-thinking are not my strong points. Sad

Rolling on the floor laughing That's fine Sharon. It's good to get many points of view and sets of instructions. We all learn something from all of them. Smiling

I have a bunch of aluminum foil pans but they're very shallow...hmm, have to figure that out! Planning and reconsidering ideas! Glad its not in the 50's yet so I have excuses to not start this!! Hilarious! Whistling
I am excited for it though! Lovey dubby

I remembered I have some room in my storage area and its heated!! Might begin sooner than later! I know its going to be the type of thing that I'll either like...or really not like, so we'll see, I'll take photos either way, if I only make a pile of crumbled mess, that'll be the photo! Further along on the pondering road......
Think I can make some large (about hay bale size or large cooler size) SOLID blocks to use like cinder blocks to surround my raised beds????

IF I can figure out what to mold them from (might have to hack one together out of lumber) maybe I could build interlocking ones.......Hmmmmmm.

My mind is a more agile builder than my actual building skills are.
Shrug!

Or maybe I could just place my bales doublewide with a space between to line with plastic and fill with hypertufa and then remove the outer bales after it's cured. Hmmmmmmm,,,,,

Hmmmm, indeed! Are you thinking about building in place, or forms for something you could move? Regardless, definitely a "Hmmmmmm!"

I just saw a blog where they used large silicone baking pans, those rubbery silicon cake pans as molds for hypertuffa, using a cup or something in the middle to make the hollow center. Makes for interesting shapes!

CG I like the idea of something big like that, and using bails of hay that then go away...but you may never be able to move the item, or is hypertufa that lightweight when dry??

Compared to concrete, it's pretty lightweight.
I like Critter's idea too. And the baking pans, but I think I'd want mine bigger than the pans.

I'm thinking about building a huge rock, one that has crevices for plants. We don't have big rocks around here, have to buy them and I refuse to buy a rock. Expensive as well.

But if you made an armature in the shape you wanted and added the hypertufa over it, then voila'! A big rock. An armature with some kind of strong screening or hardware cloth over it should work.

Not hypertufa, but close.
