This February 14th I will be teaching an extensive "Introduction to Permaculture" class to the new master gardeners students in our county, and anyone who desires to attend can come for free. The class is about 2 hours long and everyone who has attended this class before has given very positive feedback. If you're interested in learning all about what permaculture is, this is a great start.

If you're interested, tree mail me and I'll send you the details.

Dear Dave,

I live up in Greenville , Texas and have been working with my children for the past few weeks redesigning my raised beds into Kugel Cultur beds. I do have the use of a front end loader and since I live in the country , supply of fallen wood is ample. In the last couple of weeks , I tried to make some pictures of the process in various stages. I have a neighbor who has an area / pile of composted Manure/ high nitrogen hay for the overlay which we are putting on the wood/logs before putting back the good soil I had been developing in the raised beds . I am including some compost bins every 6 ft ( modified key hole) to allow my children to add the home generated and weeded grass into the Piles.I do not think the cows are wormed chemically, which is what I am concerned about with horse or cow manure. I think Ivermectin would impact microbes for years. We are working on some fruit trees and berries in a separate area.
I was a botany/ bio major in college (, but work in the medical field part time and home school my 6 children here on the farm ) with a long time interest in gardening ... Must have inherited it - My father grafted pecans for years and and My Great Grandfather started the now oldest continuous still operating landscape/ florist company in Texas (immigrating from Germany, He built underground brick reservoirs for catching rainwater that are still in use) Kaden the Florist in Gainesville, Texas. It is a very interesting place to tour , and they welcome visitors.
If you would like to come up some time ( and give me any suggestions) Id enjoy it - and some time if I am in East Texas, I 'd love to see your gardens . I wish I could come to the seminar , but I will look for pictures, and slides if you have them available

Sincerely,
Karen Andre MD

You sound a lot like our family, with the children all involved and participating in your outdoor projects, and we also homeschool our own 6 children.

I'm sorry you can't make it to the class, but if you are ever in our neck of the woods, send me a tree-mail here at ATP and we'd be glad to give you a tour of our place.

And, welcome to ATP! Welcome!

Hi Dave
Very interested in the Permaculture class. Need time info as I may have a conflict :(
Just a newbie to ATP, is this where I will find info about where you will be speaking in our area?
If I can't make this one........I may need to try and get enough Smith Co MG's so it would be worth your time to make a trip to Tyler and give a class on it.
Cindy Harrington (SCMG) met you at our fall conf/bulb sale

Hi Cindy! I had so many good things to say to our master gardeners about the wonderful and friendly people in the Smith County MGs. You all really made us feel very welcome when I spoke at your bulb sale. You have a wonderful group.

My permaculture class will start around 9:00am and end by noon. It's at the Cherokee County Agrilife extension office in the Rusk courthouse annex.

I would be very glad to bring my permaculture course to Tyler and teach it to any of your group who would be interested. It's about a 2 hour class so it wouldn't be a short thing. I just want you to be prepared for what you might get into if you wanted me to do it. Smiling

I always post and update my speaking schedule on this page:

The thread "My upcoming speaking schedule" in Texas Gardening forum

Our Spring Conference is coming up next month (not yet sure on the actual date yet) and I'll be speaking at that one, too. I'm not sure what the subject of that talk will be yet.
