That is odd. If I go the the main page of the database and type in sempervivum it goes to a page that give me the options:

Browse the full list of Sempervivum (or see recent additions)

» Search by characteristics

» Access the general Sempervivum entry

I wonder why it doesn't do that way for the daylilies?

Roses give me the same list as sempervivum. You would think it would work that way for daylilies?

That is weird, I agree. Searching for daylily or hemerocallis does not produce that result.

I tried both ways also. I have run into some other plants that wouldn't give you those search options. Wish now I would have written them down and asked about it.

Does the daylily have a parent plant?
Sedum don't yet, it is one that won't give those search results.

I think you've found the answer. I don't think there is a parent plant for Hemerocallis.

I wonder why? But you have a link that allows you to search by characteristics?

Zuzu, I just checked it out. Sedum will give you those options if I use the list of plants on the right of the page. Hurray!

Daylilies do have a parent plant page but darned if I can now find it among the list! I have LOTS of images on it.

Anyway, the way I quickly get to that page you need for searching characteristics is first open the Daylily/Hemerocallis database, click on the first daylily (or any daylily) and then in that entry, click on 'The Daylilies Database' at the top.

Let me go see what's gong on.

OK, on that same page you search for characteristics, underneath that you click on the » Access the general Daylilies entry, that takes you to the parent entry. Daylilies (Hemerocallis)

I keep a cheat sheet when I'm working in the database in case I need to access hybridizers, etc.

I keep it bookmarked on one of the computers.

Searching for "daylilies" takes me directly to the daylilies database page that Lynn described above.

The Daylilies Database

Searching for "Hemerocallis" shows the link to the parent plant, etc. As Calif_Sue says, go into any daylily entry and at the bottom is the link to the parent.

Most conveniently, you can go to the front page of the Plant Database and then over on the right is a little window that has the full list of all the parent database entries. Daylilies is present in that list.

I feel comfortable that the system is working as it should.
