We've had about 17 inches of snow since yesterday morning, lovely fluffy blow around stuff. It made the trip to Erie (there was mostly good news and a little hmmm news and some new meds for Stan) interesting. We drove through 10 miles of snow, one 5 mile stretch of white out conditions, 4 miles of snow, 15 miles of almost no snow at all and 4 miles of nasty slick city streets at rush hour on the way in. coming home was pretty much light snow and very little road clearing yet. Where on Wednesday the grass was actually greening up with the temps in the upper 50s, everything is again white with temps in the teens and windchills of -1 or -2. Tomorrow, they will drag some woodchuck out of its nice warm nest and pretend that it can predict the rest of the winter. Poor 'chuck.

Welcome to February!!

We got up to 20 today, but it was cold in church. The church is most of the way up a big hill out in the country and the west wind has blown it so hard that it leans a bit to the east. It was built in the 1840s, so has stood up to a lot of wind. When I went out to the car this morning, you couldn't see anything below the parking lot - a lake snow band was making everything but the church and parsonage disappear. Right now, there's a very light snow falling, but it could crank up again anytime.

We had a few flakes this morning, but it went away soon. Well, not ALL the snow went away, just the few flakes. Not many at church today, but we never have much more than 15 anyway.

Glad we don't have any milking jobs in this cwappy cold weather. None scheduled, but I'm sure someone will call wanting us sometime soon.

Tomorrow is our appointment at the Travel clinic to get our immunizations for our Africa trip. It's coming up soon. March 7th.

Africa? How exciting!

We're having lovely weather: mostly sunny and in the low 70s. I hope it isn't just a tease.

Anna, that should be an awesome trip, a friend went last year, he had a great time and he took some wonderful photos.

Porkpal, your weather sure sounds good to me right now, we had a flurry today and it's 30 degrees.

Stan's out pushing the snow around with the snow blower. He's using it like a back blade because the chain broke yesterday and he won't be able to get the parts until later, after cardio rehab. It looks like we had more than six inches - you can't see anything of the car but a large pile of snow where we parked it yesterday after church. The chance for more snow today is 100%, lovely.

We might get rain -yea! I am very glad that we so rarely have to deal with snow or ice. I suggest you make some tea and hibernate.

Porkpal, that was what I had in mind, but I find that I've accidentally cleaned most of the kitchen! Bread set, dishes all washed, table cleared, what was I thinking!?

Got all our immunizations; we were able to get the typhoid and malaria in oral form, so we can start those just before we leave next month. We will need a hepatitis A&B booster in a month, and a 3rd one in 6 months. Tetanus and yellow fever were the other 2 injections.

Good Lord, Anna, that's a lot of shots! Are you going anywhere near Namibia? Here's a link to a short video: http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap13... there was also an article in a National Geographic Traveler (date unknown) in a doctors office on flying over Namibia - very barren place. It was odd to run into both so close together. I thought of your trip.

We are either going to get freezing rain, sleet and snow or any combination of the three overnight and into tomorrow, when we need to go to Erie to see the surgeon for Stan's post-op appointment. Yeesh. We've had two partly sunny days in a row, guess asking for three is a little much.

Stan is up doing some repairs for the kids. They were having problems with the barn cleaner and water pump - both pieces of equipment that Stan is expert at fixing. Practice makes perfect. I found Jake's shoes a bit ago. I probably should have taken them to school, but His mother seemed to be of the opinion that a day without them might make him pay attention to things a little better.

Kathleen, we are going to Kenya. 4 weeks from today!!!!!!

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree with the mom that maybe being shoeless for a day amongst one's peers might get one to think a bit before roaring out of the house.
