I think I posted around that time that there was a small amount of burn on some of the seedlings becauce it got to 28 here, our coldest night so far this winter. Michele is about 20 miles north of us and that really makes a difference with the weather in winter and summer. We are also about 3/4 mile from the water which really helps the whole year. We were 29 two nights ago and now in the 40s at night and 65-70 durning the day. I got the second spraying for spider mites completed yesterday afternoon. Will complete the third and final spraying next week and repeat the whole around mid March.

I am not crazy about boiled cabbage but if Kathleen sets it on the table I will eat it and pretend it's the best thing I ever had.

Even over here there is a difference in temps. I live 4 miles from James' place where the daylilies are and there can be up to a 5 degree difference in temps from my house to his. It can be 35 here but drop to 30 there.

This reminds me of several years ago when we had a warm spring with no freezing temperatures for weeks and then had a severe freeze on Easter morning. The daylily foliage looked like "boiled cabbage" and had to all be cut back. It was another job that I did not need at a very busy time of the year, but one that had to be done.

Fred, your daylilies look amazing! Like Leslie, I am jealous! Green Grin! Your garden will be a showplace for the region tour in a few months.

I'm on Daytona's barrier island and the lowest its been here this year is 45 degrees. They are big and beautiful and it looks like bloom season isn't far away! Hurray! But it's only February and they won't start blooming until mid- or late March. Sad This year has actually been cooler than 2012. Last year I never even wore a sweatshirt ... this year I'm wearing them a lot! The cooler weather Is better for us and for the plants.

Fred, you have your beds down to an art. I have on hand the pvc pipe and material for labels
to use this spring. I really like your design. Think it will be easier to see what is what so much
better. Thanks so very much for sharing your process, especially for keeping up with seedlings.

Arlene, I'm jealous! We haven't been up to 45 degrees more than once in the last three months! Most of the time it's been below freezing for high temps!

We've warmed up into the 40s for the last 2 days. A good deal of the snow melted with the rain this afternoon. Most of the yard looks like boiled cabbage about now. Oh for spring...

Natalie, you don't have to worry about jealousy. Last night it was 39.5 degrees at 5:30 a.m. Don''t know what it will be this next a.m. I've brought geraniums in as well as a lady palm (she's in the guest bath blocking most everything--too large to haul around into the garage). A couple of beauties covered. The daylilies are loving it as is the garlic. Isn't all bad!

Arlene, I'd be thankful to have a high of 39.5! It's been well below that almost daily since the beginning of November. It did get up to 45 today though, so I was thankful for that! We did have another day or two in Feb. that got warm, but then it just dropped back down to freezing. Now we're expecting snow again on Sunday, and then another storm mid-week. Oh how I long for Spring!

30* this morning and should be a little colder in the morning, then will start the warm-up again.
