but I can't find it under that name in English or Spanish google searches. So, I think it must be a local name or the guy at the nursery made it up. Anyway, anyone recognize it?

It's a vine like a bougainvillea, without thorns, it appears to send out long runners and doesn't have any climbing or attaching thingies on it. (note the technical term, thingies)

I took some more pics of the same plant but more established at a friend's house. This one has been in the ground for about 6 months, the way it is growing it would cover the house if left alone. In that sense, it does seem like bougainvillea but it looks so different.

You guys are fabulous!! That's it, I'm sure of it. I was concerned that the place I wanted to put it does not get all day sun, only afternoon. I think it will do fine there now, it isn't afraid of the heat of the afternoon nor the shade of the morning. I will just need to get it more water than I usually give the bougainvillea nearby.

Thank you!! I'll check and see if it is in the Plant Database.

What a neat looking plant!!
I was wondering if yours is the 'Copper' variety Chinese Hat (Holmskioldia sanguinea 'Copper')
Most of the Holmskioldia sanguinea I see online are a bright solid red,

Could be?? The one at my friend's house, 2nd and 3rd pics, has a lighter color and she says that it used to be darker. We think that it is not getting as much sun now, winter angle, and hopefully will get more color when the sun is full on it in a month or so. It's definitely not red, it is a copper/orange color.
