One of the articles for Rose Week needs illustrations of rose pests (aphids, rose slugs, Japanese beetles, rose midges, spider mites, and leaf miners) and rose diseases (powdery mildew, black spot, rust, rose mosaic disease, etc.). I've found some of these in Wikipedia Commons, but I'd prefer to use ATP members' photos.

If you have photos of any of these, please post them in this thread.

If you still need black spot pictures, here are a couple:Thumb of 2013-02-07/porkpal/4e74fe

Well, three. The last is a mild case on Perle d'Or.

Thank you, Porkpal. I just need one, so I've moved the middle one to the database. It's easier to retrieve them from there for articles.

Oh I can do aphids. If this isn't clear enough I can go look in my 2010-11 pictures. I haven't loaded them on to the computer yet.

Thanks, Dora. The articles all had to be done by today, so I found a good picture of aphids in Wikimedia Commons. Yours is much prettier, but the Wiki photo showed a lot more aphids. Ick!

The thing is diseases and pests are too depressing to photograph intentionally.

I know. I take pictures of them to show people in the forums, but then I delete them from my files. I never add them to the database, although it probably would be a good idea to have photos of the common rose pests and diseases in the parent entry for the Rosa genus.

If you did not delete them the nearby entries might be infected!

I can post some really nice Rose Rosette Disease photos if you need them. LOL. No more Roses for me until they find a cure for that disease. If you live in the Eastern side of the country, don't plant roses because this disease is rampant!

Are rose retailers in various parts of the country cautious about where they get their stock so that this horrible disease does not get imported to other areas?

This problem has just come along this year, starting with my roses (at one time saw tiny green worms, 6 in a row, killing the leaf upward) and now in my Mandeville and box wool shrubs in front of house. I did spray a pesticide but it doesn't seem to have been effective..

Only the first photo includes a shot of the beast that does this kind of damage.

Oops .. I just noticed the date of the original post ... *Blush*

Oh, well, now everyone can see what happens when rose slugs run amok.

Nola - yuck! blech! Good pictures, though.

Lyn - I have NEVER seen a rose slug on top of a leaf. How weird.
