I just picked up a Kalanchoe from Lowe's dead-and-dying rack, only because it had buff-peach blooms (those that are left, anyway). I've never tried to grow one of these before - I'm guessing bright, indirect light, water only when dry?

Please, a bit of a lighter hand as compared to a cactus but you are correct. It hates being water logged or even have damp roots. As to it being moth eaten, no worries. Made of stainless steel Shrug! . I have two yellows but one is a different Kalanchoe, one white should be somewhere, three different shades of pink and purple and two with variegated leaves dirty green with red edges . Time I should carry out an inventory.
Regards,
Arif.

Get, get. As far as these succulents are concerned, they are only getting callused. Never had a failure, even from the garbage bin.

I've never been able to get my kalachoes to rebloom, I know its probably too much nitrogen, because they leaf out gorgeously but no blooms!

Huum! Greg we appreciate each others plants but forget to ask some relevant questions. To much nitrogen reminded me that I grow mine is a sand and gravel mixture, if any soil is in there it is more due to negligence and not design. Just a light 1:1:1 ratio (14:14:14 fert I round of and consider 1:1:1) feed of fertilizer in the blooming season. Like cactus I think these are also getting their nutrients from atmospheric moisture.

Arif.

Well now I know, although I'm overcrowded with other types of plants! If I ever go back to these, I'll know what I did wrong, since I was treating them like any other houseplant, giving them hummus rich soil and regular fertilizer (not anything specific to bloom production)
Thanks Arif I tip my hat to you.

Yeah, I try cruelty and they die on me! Thumbs down The other thing that was happening for me with these plants is leaf mold, again, obviously I was keeping them too moist, but then when I'd try to keep them dry, they'd loose their leaves and slowly die off...could be they were from greenhouse plants that weren't well rooted, it was a while ago that I tried them, so I might have better luck now nodding

Maybe hybrids, mine are mostly what over the years maybe called landraces, mongrels or pie-dogs Shrug! . Does it make any difference? I have one which has scalloped edges, unruly with yellow blooms. Is that another species? Gravel and sand might be free draining but at the same time does not absorb water readily in a rain. Maybe some plants may keep us company in hell, from their behavior it seems so. Might as well get on good terms with them Lovey dubby before I end up spending eons with them Whistling .

Arif.

LOL, you two! Greg, this *is* heaven. Sorry, this is as good as it gets!

So, another day in the cactus house, another pearl of wisdom from the boss. He had been keeping a bunch of cacti cuttings (until he could properly pot them up) in perlite. When he finally got around to it, they already had a thriving root system. His explanation was that perlite absorbs enough moisture to keep things going, but never enough to make things rot.

So your recipe makes sense to me, Arif. Currently my Kalanchoe is in some very very light soil, which I will change A.S.A.P. - thank you! And thanks for more lovely blooms.
In the end, only kindness matters.
