Great job Dora! It was really fun to work with you on this fact finding mission. I was glad to learn about the "War of the Roses" and that it had something to do with roses Hilarious! Note: Dora is a bit of a history nut

Also: The photo of the pink Wild Rose is of one growing in Northern Alberta, Zone 1A! They are very fragrant too.

Very cool!

I had no idea that the rose was the first patented plant.

A 33" bloom! Astounding!

Thumbs up

So am I since that is as big as some rose bushes. Joanne and I were unable to verify that point--there are several posts and articles that mention it on the internet, along with some (non-functional) links to pictures of the rose, so we decided to let it go. I considered that perhaps the measurement referred to the circumference, not the diameter, but in that case everyone made a mistake. One entry read as follows: "... The peduncle was 13 inches. The grower and hybridizer, Nikita K. Rulhoksoffski from San Onofre, California, transported this massive bloom in a small enclosed trailer. When asked what feeding program he used, Comrade Rulhoksoffski said his special program uses approximately three gallons of fish emulsion bi-weekly followed by ten pounds ..." (link to remainder of article doesn't work so whatever else he dumped on that rose can be left to your imagination).

I should note, that San Onofre, from which the rose is purported to orginate, is the site of a 'troubled' nuclear power plant, is built on the Rose Canyon fault, and the local committee organized against it is called Residents Organized for a Safe Environment, or ROSE. (Ahem) I'm thinking it may be a spoof intended to draw attention to radioactive leaks in the area. Personally I find that more interesting than simply growing a big rose, particularly since several sources now report it as fact.

But maybe it's true. Shrug!

Dora that is far more interesting in my opinion!! And I think I'm going with "spoof" (since the text seems designed to illicit interest Hilarious! and humor!) Still it probably won't be too long before something like that does happen!
Thanks again I tip my hat to you.
Cheers

Found this link and there is some very interesting stuff in there. I did a google search for "Guinness book rose" But I can't find anything about a 33" rose bloom.
