The Most Loved and Beautiful of Flowers

By Mike
February 9, 2013

Some know it as the Queen of Flowers; others call it by its family name, Rosaceae. But most of us know it, quite simply, as the rose. Whether grown in gardens, depicted in drawings, or praised in poetry, it is one of the most loved and beautiful of all flowers. This article briefly describes its history, explains its basic classifications, and provides descriptions and photographs of some of the most interesting and diverse specimens of the rose, the most beautiful of the flowering plants.

Mike,

What an amazing article! I've really enjoyed reading all the great information and history of these beautiful flowers ... it's got me looking in the database and reading more about roses. First I think the species roses are my favorite, then I think nope ... it's the Old Garden Roses that I love the most, then I get to the Modern Roses and love them too. I think it would be very difficult to choose a favorite ... I want them all!

I notice that your photo of that gorgeous Rosa arkansana in not in the database: Wild Prairie Rose (Rosa arkansana) and you really should add it. Smiling

Thanks so much for this really nice article!

Wow! Probably the best written and informative article I've read in a long time about roses. Thanks, Mike.

The photos are perfect, too...easily bringing the written word into reality. Thanks for taking the time to put this article together.

Now we all know who to come to with our rose questions!
