I resemble that remark. Big Grin

Arif, I don't have enough of the answers to the questions to write a rule book. I'd rather make snow angels. Except it is wet and muddy here, not conducive to making a snow angel. I just got a terrible picture in my mind of what I would look like after attempting that. Blinking

Most years we have temps in the 90's and 100 to 102°F. And my semps are in full sun. But when you are talking about long periods of that type of intense sun, it is best to give them protection from the sun during the hottest part of the day.
Seeds will germinate using both the freezing method and the warmth method. But I agree with Greg, they don't have to have a freezing cycle to germinate.

Oooh Kate, no sending out poisoned semp. We'll have to keep and eye on you. Whistling

I don't think we would have a problem in this group, we love our semps to much. Green Grin!

My semps are grown in full sun, when we are going to have a stretch of high temps this is what I do. Not very pretty, but sure works. Shade cloth.

It saved them 2 years ago when we were having all the high 90's into 100° weather. I didn't have to use it last year. It's pretty quick to pull out of the garage and throw over the frames if it happens again.

Hot direct sun is what I attribute to getting my semps to bloom even though they were small (first year semps)
It was nice looking but I lost afew semps to blooming without sending out chicks Sad Now I know there's shade cloth Thumbs up Whistling

Many of us lost semps to blooming two years ago, even the young offsets. This one was planted in Jan 2011, photo from July 2011, before drought set in. No blooming in 2012. Thought I was going to loose it all. Did manage to save a few tiny offsets that grew into the second photo.

Did I mention that it is prolific. Thumbs up

Try it with a human and find out.
Lynn I have been very busy in making a designer bed for these things, terracotta tiles and all. Will take some time though to get the micro climate just right. I am working in leaf mulch into the soil then water to get the wallop of humic acid out. When it is smelling musty then granite aggregate and sand. Sad Maybe a month more to get the conditions just right.
Sunny days, yummy days even got some work done on the composter that I am working on but next spell of rain is expected by Saturday night. *Blush* Then again flat.
Five new double Kalanchoes in the market, have to check them up on Friday plus the lot of hardy Geraniums.
Regards,
Arif.

Just popping in to say that my seeds have started to pop up, just 5 days after sowing! I can already see that I've sown them too thickly, I'm going to have to get the tweasers out in a couple of weeks and seperate them a bit. How much light and water do the babies like? I've opend the bag a little because I don't want them to damp off, but I don't know how wet they should be kept. Likewise light - do they like a lot, or like cactus will they burn in too much? The big yellow disc apperared in the sky yesterday for the first time in what feels like months, it's a wonderful sight! Big Grin
