Another CPM bloom. Found this in a nursery about 2 months ago. It was one of those Jackson & Perkins boxed roses. It was sickly looking and was struggling but nursed it back to life and has now grown and so healthy looking.

No rose bloom here, but another photo I took this morning and worth posting. Scarlet Delight lilies and Milkshake echies. Actually there's a rose bush behind them. America - a climber. The canes are fanned-out on the fence.

Why on earth are some of the pictures so.. saturated? Do you purposefully saturate their hues? I grabbed your "High Society" and made a few adjustments.. I can post it if you'd like. Smiling They're fun adjustments.

Other than that, I think there's a major toss up if I wanna steal your yard or Zuzu's yard. Or Steve's. Or Alan's, Mike's, CR, Calif-Sue (although she jsut sold her house..)

You get the idea. Big Grin

I would like to see what you can do for Tex's roses. The colors did not look true to me. Such lovely blooms deserve to be accurately represented. OK Tex?

I can't speak for all the pics, but red roses have always been hard for me to take pictures of with my digital camera. They end up terribly saturated and distorted. The only time I can get 'decent' pics of them is when it is overcast or rainy. How often does that happen in the Arizona Deserts...Ha! Not very often. Your roses and garden are beautiful Tex!

Toni - the recent photos were taken using a polarizer filter. When I'm in the mood I use a Nikon SLR. But often times I just use a Samsung 8 megapixel digital camera - phone. I seldom use the Nikon camera. But the Samsung phone and camera combination is always in my pocket and that's what I use all the time, as I often take photos when I tend the gardens early mornings or late afternoons / early evenings.

Porkpal - can you tell me which rose(s) is/are not true of their color. I will do a side by side comparison from other photos on the web. Like Alan mentioned, the reds are hard to capture with or without filters.

Alan - thanks for the compliments!

Alan - What I had to do is adjust the aperture (sp?) timing thingie on my uh.. Canon SD1200 (little pink camera Big Grin ) so I could get the proper true-to-color rather than the blinding-yet-not-realistic coloration of the rose. I use the Exposure ISO thingie (technical terms here, doncha know) to between -1 and -2, depending on how much sunlight there is. If it's full sun, then I make it closer to -2.

But, playing around, I managed to turn High Society from this to this

I'm not catching your point Toni, neither one of those are the true color of High Society.

Here are earlier photos of HS taken with cam-phone (no polarizing). The true color is hard to capture in camera.Thumb of 2010-07-29/Tex68/7cec5d Thumb of 2010-07-29/Tex68/0302ee

Porkpal - the photo on the right I 'borrowed' from Plantfiles in the other site. I don't see that much difference except mine is polarized. Regarding 'The Prince', there's nothing I can do about it, as I always find it hard to capture the reds and the hot pinks. A red may turn to dark pink or orange-like depending on lighting or sun conditions.

Gorgeous garden, Tex. I especially love the photos of Garden Party.

As for "true-color" problems, I just addressed this in another of our forums. Filters-shmilters: What you need is a white cat obedient enough to serve as a backdrop.

Ah, so all Tex needs is a white cat... I can never get a red rose to look really red either but I definitely lack photography skills. I did not realize it was an universal problem.

I don't have a white cat, but I got 2 white pugs. Rolling my eyes. Problem is, they're not obedient. Matter of fact, they're little devils. Big Grin

I will happily lend one of my many white kitties if that would help. Smiling Lessee, Osiris, Thor, Apollo, Chaos, Odin (mostly white), Flowerchild (she's really tiny though), and Vasilia.

Alan - I mentioned that I was playing, not trying to go true-to-color. I don't have the software here for that.

PPal - That's why I love love LOVE my Canon SD1200. It's 100% dummy proof!! Trust me, I'm a camera dummy (and a rose dummy, and many other forms of dummy)

Toni - I'll pass for now with the kitties. Don't get me wrong, I like cats. Used to have a pure white cat too and a schnauzer that grew up together and were the best of friends.

Thanks again Alan, and by the way thank you Zuzu for the information.

That is a project I started yesterday and just finished today in between rains. The trellis I got from my favorite nursery for only 5 bucks each. Originally they were $49.00 and the one in the middle was $99.00.
From the same nursery I got 2 gal clematis for $3 two weeks ago. They were half dead, the top that is. But it got strong and huge root system, The whole pot was just filled with roots. Brought it back to life, in fact one of them got blooms at the moment.
The English roses were from RU's B1G1 sale last month and I will train them as short climbers.
First trellis photo above is a combo of Pat Austin and clematis 'Comtesse De Bouchaud'. In front of the trellis is another Pat Austin growing as a shrub. Next to it is Graham Thomas, so if the canes get long, it can go on the trellis too.
Middle trellis is a combo of Benjamin Britten and I think the name of the clem is Ville de Lyon (something like that). Front of trellis is Wenlock purchased a while back.
Last trellis is a combo of Tess of D'Urvervilles(sp?) and Dutchess of Edenburgh clem. Front of trellis is Covedale, also purchased from RU.
