I found some nice semp's at lowes the other day. Here she is first with her babies her name is 'Jade Rose'
Thumb of 2013-02-21/jojoe/709065
The mother has such a pretty rose color starting to show. There were others that the whole leaves were rose colored, but i liked this one because the others with more color had bigger babies and i for some reason thought i would rather have the smaller babies. Shrug! Confused Lovey dubby
Thumb of 2013-02-21/jojoe/ecc493
On one side of the pot the babies are bigger.

And now my question, when i plant these can i have some advice on planting it as is straight out of the pot or removing any babies? Should maybe some of the bigger babies be removed or should they come loose on their own?

I am so excited about getting started on my rock garden again.I ordered some from Simply succulents & got a 10% discount from their facebook they have a discount they are only advertising on there. (between me & you the code is FB2013.) Whistling

I pre-ordered for the spring: Hurray!
Pacific Blue Ice
Princess Rose
Red Rum
Woolcott's varieties
and last but i'm excited this is my first
Jovibarba 'Olympicum'
I seem to be partial to the different colors lavenders, reds & yellow or goldish.I plan on ordering a few more that will come sooner that way i won't get them all at once.I never know when I will have a relapse and not be able to even walk to the bed,I try not to let the MS run my life but sometimes i have to live around it. Thumbs down

Today it's 70 degree's and it has been getting down to freezing almost every night & is suppose to again tonight. Thumbs down been doing some work on the bed, suppose to start raining tomorrow again. We haven't had any rain in 2 day's Hurray!

Kate,Thank you so much for the nice words.I couldn't believe it when i seen them at lowes,I only wish they had other varieties. I want to check the other lowes in town to see if they got any in,maybe they will have a different variety. Lovey dubby

I am a newbie as well who's done a lot of research & asked many, many questions!! I have probably drove everyone crazy with my questions Rolling on the floor laughing but it's a nice group of people on here & i have learned a lot!! I've managed to keep 8 alive in a rock garden in the making all winter & a unusually wet, soggy wet, winter for us.

Good luck with your semp's,I hope you have some Confused Lovey dubby

Jojoe!! Welcome to the semp club Sticking tongue out Hilarious! I love your photos!! Jade Rose is going to be a nice one I can tell! I don't think it matters if you leave the babies on or not, personally I like to take some of the larger ones off and plant them closeby so you have a mound sooner!! Your list from simply succulents looks really nice!! I love the "roller" type jovibarba! And I've had my eye on 'Olympicum' you'll like them too because the babies roll off as soon as you touch them, they can be planted where ever and will grow. They're small and like little marbles!! nodding Congrats! It sounds like your rock garden is coming along! Btw I posted some plant ideas on your other thread!
Cheers I tip my hat to you.

Greg,I just love it when you chime in with idea's or your opinions. To be honest i have no idea what i'm doing (at least i feel that way) I hope what i've done so far looks like i have it imagined in my head.I like plants that have a way of mounding when they bloom. In the case of the semps & jovi's they look great because they grow in a mound.

It's suppose to rain the next 2 days so i didn't plant the semp today but i couldn't help myself,i pulled it out of the pot and it has a large root ball all babies are still attached good.I think i will plant as is & let the babies grow bigger.I have never seen what they do.When do they come loose from the parent plant and start their own family? Is it easier to help them along like you said Greg, plant a couple close by.

I have 4 that a lady pulled off her plant & gave me.I kept them in a pot all summer but now they are doing great in my bed, when are they old enough to have babies.
This is them last summer.

jojoe, Jade Rose is a beauty. Its a good idea to get the one with the smaller chicks. That way if the large one flowers and dies, you'll be sure to have lots of babies to carry on! The ones the lady gave you look like they're doing great.

Semp babies will generally root while still attached to the mother. You can pull them off at any time and plant them. With jovis, the babies roll off on their own and you can either move them to where you want them, or they'll just root whenever they land.

My local HD has a "buy five, get one free" sale right now on semps, so naturally I took advantage! *Blush* Unfortunately they are not labeled to a specific species, but they are pretty nonetheless!

Jelinda, your Jade Rose is beautiful, and should be making many babies this year for you. Thumbs up
The ones you don't have names for will be forever called NOID. Smiling It is rare to be able to identify semps of unknown origin. Sure doesn't stop us from loving and enjoying them.
Just love your lizard. Like Greg, I really miss not having them, they don't live here on the valley floor. We can sometimes see them in the rocky areas outside town with a little higher elevation.
You should add your photos of Jade Rose to the database. It will turn some very pretty colors through the year. Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum 'Jade Rose')

Lynn, Thanks and it's done !! Lovey dubby

I need to get this plant in the ground but i haven't well i have been sick (bed bound) but i have help for when this happens,my hubby has learned a lot & i've gotten good at supervising. Rolling on the floor laughing Lovey dubby

The reason i have planted it is we have had so much rain,we are caught up in a vicious cycle of a day or 2 of cold rain,a cold day of a misty overcast then the sun comes out & temp goes up to 60's maybe low 70's,then 2days of cold rain.My bed hasn't had a chance to dry out in 2 months. The plants already in the bed i think are making it because they were well established when the rains started in Dec.I guess i now know my bed drains well enough i haven't lost any semps or sedums, they even still look good. Hurray! I have got the place in my bed ready where i want to put it but what should i do the sun is shining today but it drizzled yesterday & rain all day & night the day before that,It's very, completely dry in it's pot i made sure it didn't get any water because i figure it was going to be planted in wet, cold soil.

Thanks to all yall for so much good advice without it my plants would probably be dead or drowning. I probably wouldn't have just jumped in head first with this bed without the awesome help i got from everyone!! Group hug

You can plant it at any time Jelinda. Actually, the sooner the better, the rain and temp fluctuations would help it get going before summer heat arrives.
Do you know what semp that is in your last photo above? Lovely.
You are an excellent semp mommy. Lovey dubby

Yes mam' i do it's sempervivum rubellum 'mahogany'Thumb of 2013-02-27/jojoe/42b2b1This is it before the cold weather.I had some trouble with one of the rosettes and following (oh no i can't remember who talked me through the surgery) a "surgical procedure it came back beautifully.

When it started turning cold that one didn't turn as fast & still is different than the rest.I am curious as to what it will do through the summer & into the next cold season!!Thumb of 2013-02-27/jojoe/7104a5This is the latest picture taken and that one still hasn't turned colors like the others.

I'm excited for these to produce offsets, these are still connected or they were when i planted them in the fall.

Have you added the photos to the database yet? I remember you having to do surgery. You did a great job. It will catch up in the color process. They should produce many offspring for you this year. Thumbs up
