Came across this interesting concept this morning: http://www.greatgardenplants.c... Talk about instant gratification! Would be fun to do a doghouse roof or something with them, but pretty pricey. Also, the company doesn't really have a very good rating. But I still think it's a cool concept!

I've always gotten good service from them. They are high but send large plants though.

This looks exactly like what I bought last year from our local big box store (Freddies). They were half flats of "sedum sod" and I bought one and plopped it onto an old patio chair that was otherwise heading for the trash. I hope they carry it again this year because I have another chair to do. Alternately, I could do the other chair with semps instead Whistling .

The regular price for the half flat was 9.99 but I got it on sale for 7.99.

Of course I forgot to post the pic I just went out and took:

Thumb of 2013-02-25/pardalinum/7ca0b7

Compared to what I paid the 15 x 20" sheets from Great Garden Plants are a little cheaper, being a bit bigger than a standard flat (I think).

Good to know you got good service from them Clint. Thumbs up

Since you didn't have to pay any shipping Connie, it probably ended up being a better deal. The chair looks nice - like it took a long time to get all those plants growing so good! Smiling

I hadn't thought about the shipping. The nice thing is I could pick from what was available. They didn't all look alike.

Clint had posted about it in another thread, but that was the first I saw of it. It sure is a nice one! But $$$

Connie, fun that you actually had a choice of different mats!

Or you can create your own mats with leaves and cutting from your existing sedum. Just plant/sow them thick.

I don't have enough sedum varieties to make these. They use so many different colors. It really is beautiful. I might someday though!

Buy one small pot of each, tear into pieces and scatter over the surface that you will be using as a sod backing. Hmmm, wonder what that would be?
It is amazing how quickly they grow. Keep moist until they root and get good root systems going. Hurray!

I was just joking about the semp sod. I just ordered so many Semps this year so far that I probably will have to make a semp sod to go on my roof when they start multiplying. Rolling on the floor laughing I am working on something new though. I plan to do this project while I'm on Spring Break this coming week. I think it's worth an article. It's going to be nice. It does have semps on it too.

I just noticed that Spring Break for me is when the Sempervivum stuff happens here. I think it was meant to be! LOL
