May 7 ( I think is the earliest 'average' last frost for me) I don't 'trust' it until towards the end of the month... I was raised with the "Don' plant before Memorial Day" mantra ;) ......... I don't generally start my own, I haven't got the right 'set up' (yet, and with tha, I find my "CDO" kicks into 'hyper drive'
) (Oh, CDO is OCD int the 'correct' order
) ........ I have a couple guys that grow BEAUTIFUL starts and are both 'retired' (and NICE people) so I get my plants from them.... One is in Eagle Creek (think NW Oregon) Quite a 'hike' fer me, but my Sis lives up there and most often I meet her 1/2 way and have lunch
..( he just sent me an email, sayin' he has planted 350 varieties this yr, almost makes me 'giddy' :nodding:, I can't wait to compare my 'wishlist' to his ) .................The other, I get my Goliaths from, he lives here and I volunteer at the grade school with his wife ........
You have listed a 'couple' that I am gonna look for....... I am not really lookin' for cherries or 'small' maters' and frankly ( my cherries are fer 'grazing' when we outside, now that there is only 2 of us, I'm thinkin' I have 'enough', barely) I have tried my share of 'earlies'....... They have yet to truly produce before the 'mid-seasons' I plant and don't seem to bring a lot to the table (so to speak) :shrug:
I am gonna look for the 'Vorlon' - Black , I've read mixed reviews on it, but, that doesn't matter much to me........ I find that what 'matters' is what it does in MY garden ( I have planted some that friends LOVE, only to be disappointed in the plant or fruit
)
The Azoychka, is interesting as well ( especially the 'few seeds' part) Like I posted, I really like the 'all' yellow/orange sauce that I put up and have a growing 'love affair' with oxheart type maters......... Romas are a 'train wreck' in my garden, for whatever reason and I have given up on them....... I am happiest when I don't have to process 6-8 maters per pound also
Thanks for the suggestions...... I generally only have a 'few' types that are consistently in my maters patch and the rest tend to 'rotate' depending on my 'mood', or availability .........................
