Just wanted to share with you some information for Don Mylin (SMG). Very exciting.


Hi Lynn- My best guess on the 'New Rhumba' is abt 2 weeks. I am thinking I might have some availability later in the spring on two new varieties which I have named 'Lush Life' and 'Poco Loco'. I don't have the photos handy at the moment, but 'Lush life' is a larger rosette which has year round interest and quite dramatic color changes. 'Poco Loco' is smaller & mostly of interest in the spring. It is a variegated in a sort of speckled way with red pigment on green leaves . The variegation fades with summer heat making them look quite ordinary for the remainder of the year. Probably the next ones after those (maybe next spring) are 'Lujon', 'Besame Mucho', and 'Sophisticated Lady', and the as yet unnamed tricolor. I've been working on the tricolor for 10 years now. It is very slow going.

I have been trying to collect Don's hybrid semps. He has been working for a long time on producing some very different semps.

I feel like the hybidizers are working faster than my trying to keep up with you semp vets that are hungrily waiting for the coming latest and greatest semps (speckled, already?...where has the time gone?).
Ah, to be younger and wiser (semp-wise that is).

Just wish this desire to collect these wonderful plants had come into my life 20 or 30 years ago.

Oh, well. Lynn, we can make up for it and go at warp speed with the collecting. Stop to smell the roses (or irises) and you miss out on the speckled semps called Measles.

Semp-wise - that has to be a contender for the semp lexicon!

I got a late start in life on collecting semps too.... But Bev, I'm collecting as fast as I can!

Serse - where are you?? Did you hear this, speckled! Oh yeah, and Cruddy you seemed interested in speckled semps! Leave it to Don to figure that one out, and guess what else he sells...echeverias and haworthias - so maybe he used the suggested recipe!
Kate we're going to have to grow them out and get seed to send you! Or if one of us travels over we can have that "special" jewelry!!
