Sometimes we gardeners succumb to conventional wisdom, only to discover that it may be conventional, but it's not wise.

Oh, that's funny Larrry.

Dave had a rant about "murdering" crape myrtles on one of his podcasts.

I've seen many decapitated trees like this.

Too bad the pruners couldn't be decapitated instead, then stood up in place of the trees, as "ornamental humans".

That might be considered too cruel to the humans, but I say: "HEADS! Use 'em or lose 'em.)

Thanks for the humor, Rick. Thumbs up Sometimes when faced with a sad situation, we just need to laugh.

Vicki, the interesting thing is that I wrote this and THEN listened to the podcast. I couldn't believe my ears. Here was Dave saying the very same thing. He even used the word "rant!"

lol! I can totally relate to this. Unfortunately, my husband grew up thinking trees had to be topped, so several of our maples got topped many years ago. It just ruined the beautiful winter shape. I think it is a travesty that this practice continues.

As a matter of fact, my husband tried to get a couple of tree service companies to top the other huge maple on our property and they refused to do it! They would trim or remove, but not top. Our maple tree still stands intact Thumbs up

Good for them, Vickie, and good for you! Thumbs up I hope your husband takes their refusal to heart.
