I've found they grow well in the same conditions as sibs, but just don't get as tall, or as large a blossom, but still pretty.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to visit the Kamo fields in spring?

A new seedling opened today. It looks like this will be the only new seedling to bloom this year. Seed is from Earth and Fire open pollinated. It has very fine lined veins and is lightly sanded violet. Seed was started in January 2010. Silly thing is growing in a hanging basket.

Nice colors, great form! First day bloom Connie? Does it stay horizontal? Are those iris seed pods in the background?

Photo was taken on day 2 of bloom and form remains horizontal. I don't see anything unique about it as many similar ones are available. But I don't plan on kicking it out quite yet!

Evan, I forgot to say that those are daylily buds in the background. Since my seedling was growing in a basket I had the benefit of staging it in front of a nice background, a background that wasn't junk, weeds and more junk Hilarious! .

Thanks Mary Ann and Arlyn. The rest of my JIs are on the verge of blooming and I am anxiously waiting. It is such a long time between seasons!

I am really enjoying these photos Connie. Indigo Delight is perfect. I'm hoping I'll get bloom this year. Your photo of Stella Niagara makes it glow. I ordered a few with rays this year and SN will be on my list for next. Did your seedling JHFP-1 come as a surprise? Do your crosses tend to pollen parent form?

Yes, JHFP-1 did surprise me. It doesn't look like either parent. I got only two successful seedlings from the cross; the other was a weak white one similar to Japanese Harmony. Its petals were thin and tissue like and I discarded it. I really haven't done enough of these to discern a relationship between form and parent.

Connie, I love that they are 3 falls. I especially love your seedling JHFP-1! Wonderful! We are in sib season here. Japanese open late June/early July. Can't wait!

Kathy, most of my JIs are the 3 fall type. We had a hot streak in May and I think that got things going a bit faster. My tall beardeds were around 5-7 days earlier than usual.
