This guy has never gotten any taller than 6"(for me). It hasn't flowered or produced leaves, just these stems, which are about the diameter of standard pencil lead. The plant shown here is about 3" tall, and growing in a 4" pot

pniksch: Do you live in Florida? If not Euphorbia tirucalli it might be a plant called Whisk Fern: Whisk Fern (Psilotum nudum)
I have it sprout up in some of my planters and it sorta looks like that when it first peeks out of the soil. I will go out and see if I have any showing that I can photograph.

Ok, I only found one pot with a little piece of the Whisk Fern growing. I took a couple of pictures for comparison, one upright and another close up profile:
These photo's are from a couple of years ago when I dug one up and took a picture of the roots:

I think the whisk fern is correct. I believe it hitch hiked into my garden in a plant I bought from Hawaii. I live in Frisco Tx, but it spends the winter in my greenhouse with my other tropicals. The tips have a little 'paw'(my term) that I see in your reference pics. Thanks.

Glad I saw this post! I really wasn't sure because it looks so much like the Euphorbia.
I found Whisk Ferns sprouting up in a couple of my container plants in 2008 and had no clue as to the identity. Someone on DG identified it for me and said that the Whisk Fern is a very primitive plant and has been around for thousands of years!
