Last fall I planted iris reticulatas for the first time ever in my garden. I had been thinking about getting some and finially did. I bought 100 each of Harmony and Alida from Brent and Beckies and planted them together in a big drift because I thought the deep blue and paler blue would really look great together.
Yesterday I looked and thought they were not up yet, today I went and looked again. Moved the mulch away that I put down last fall and there are green shoots showing. Even some deep blue flower buds.
Still most to come up, these are only the earliest popping up. But I am excited to great to see them blooming as they are a compeatly new bulb in my garden.
Debra, it was cold today and the flowers were not open yet. But I have seen pictures of iris reticulatas for years and been thinking I should have some for myself. I like the idea of something early to bloom early like the crocus.
mine are not showing yet , but I did take a photo of some at the Philly show last week.
These were labeled pixie but all the other photos I have seen of pixie were a darker color . My guess is being indoors may have washed the color out?
I know I do need to get more for next year so am looking at Brent & Beckies. I see Pixie and Dijt both of which look really good to me. And I also really like Rhapsody.
I am really liking these iris reticulata I planted last fall. They are a nice early bloom to have and first thing in the spring I am always looking for something that will bloom. These are blooming before most of my crocus as only some early species crocus are open for me. (Golden bunch only opened today).
I am plotting where I want to plant more of the iris reticulata. I am also thinking they would look really nice mixed in with some early crocus. Need to think about what color combos I want to create.
