So sad, because we've decided to scrap our plans to install irrigation in our backyard. I'd originally planned to install drip irrigation, but can't find the time, due to working a second job... Then, figured the second job could pay for installation, but the bids came back in the multiple thousands of $ & it just doesn't seem worth putting that much into this yard, when we'll move in about 3 years, & realtors have assured us that new owners will want a bigger house, grass, pool, etc. The soaker hoses I installed last year are not doing the trick & need to be supplemented with sprinklers. But DH swears that he'll help with the watering, because the yard is just too big for me to handle alone & he promises not to complain about the water bills, which would be lower with efficient irrigation... So, that's my sad story for today - was so looking forward to a more lush yard & less time dragging hoses around. Thanks for listening to me whine.

Now, I'd like some advice/input: I have 3 clematis, from a coop last year, which need a much bigger pot. I have 3 blueberry bushes, that are 3 years old & bearing like crazy, (obviously, I won't transplant them until their season is over). Do you think these two plants would co-habit, happily, in a half barrel? I want to keep them all in pots, so I can 1) take them with me & 2) easily acidify the soil for the blueberries.

Water woes...we all have them. If you plan on leaving in 3 years, that will go fast. I'd do what I could for now and look forward to what I can do in the next place. The cost of having someone else do the drip installation would outweigh your water cost savings most likely, no? Do you mean that you currently have the blueberries in half barrels and plan to move them? Mine are in half barrels also and I have a lot of other stuff in half barrels, can't imagine trying to move them...it will be difficult enough with the trees I have in 15 gal pots...lol..

Sherry, that's exactly my plan! The next place will be our last place, so I'll make it as lower maintenance... This yard was my big project, but I didn't factor aging into it, when I started it 5 years ago - guess I didn't believe it would happen, but gardening on hills is for the young(er)...

The blueberries are currently in ugly plastic pots, but want to put them in something more decorative. The half barrels are currently empty.

We bought one of these pot-lifters at the Garden show a couple of years ago - it would help you lift those 15 gallon trees with Jerry's or your son's help:

Garden shows coming up soon - yay for my DH who produces their commercials & got us free tickets again!

It's interesting that the rosemary Tuscan Blue and the salvia brandeegei have exactly the same color of blue for their bloom...rather interwoven here, I can't really tell the difference...need to get a better pic tomorrow with different light conditions....

This is supposedly salvia Navaho Bright Red, but it's certainly more interesting than it was last year. I'm wondering if it's due to the weather or if I have a self sown mix in there....

We'll get none of the rain. I'm afraid we may not see any amounts of rain again. Best pull the weeds while the ground is still soft. OTH, it's Spring and everything is starting to bloom, so I should not complain at all.
