Thanks for all the suggestions. Perhaps I can do the shade cloth.

I just thought the bubble wrap would provide some insulation. Most were all sitting on the concrete close together with
some protection from the winds. Then I put them on table tops where they would get more sun. That may have done
them in when the cold weather came.

I will check on the shade cloth tomorrow. I tip my hat to you. I tip my hat to you. I tip my hat to you.

Ha Jackie, the current manager knows nothing about gardening/landscaping/plants and doesn't really want to learn (much) so I have just taken it on and added what I think would look good to the plantings. Over time this has created a lush and "happy" place Smiling In the back there is a "secret garden" area,
where there is mostly shade. The side is mostly full southern facing sun (where I have my semp beds, so I probably will need shade cloth also!) and the front is mixed and filled with bushes and perennials. Its been fun doing, but the weeding is really intense, never ending! One of my building neighbors said to me today "you garden here as if you own the place" Thumbs up I said " I like feeling like I "live" where ever I'm living! I'm the perfect tenant!" Unless of course someone doesn't like fully landscaped yards! Sticking tongue out

Just came in from working outside.
Jackie you are doing a wonderful job tending your new babies. Keep it up. Just not to much sun when they are so stressed already.

Have to go wash up and get something to eat. I think I have FDS. Sad

Good luck Jackie - sounds like you're doing all the right things with your babies now.

Marilyn, if you don't have a ton of pots, just bring them in for a couple days - it won't hurt them.

Yes, I do keep mine in the garage by a window until I can plant outside. But I also had to keep some in the house for about 3 weeks. I kept them close to a window that gets lots of sun in the cool room. But I do get them outside just as quickly as I can. You have to keep a close eye on them in the house to be sure they're getting enough sun, a I don't water them at all - just mist them a tiny bit once a week.

Greg who wouldn't love a beautiful landscaped garden! Lovey dubby

Lynn Thank you I'm trying to do a good job with them. I will keep them more on the shady side.

Chris, since we are very similar in climate when do you put yours outside? Are you always shifting your plants in and out of the garage? After you get them in the mail how long do you keep them in before planting them out in your beds? Do you use shade cloths as Bev does? Should I be bringing mine in my house since I dont have a garage? Confused

Jackie, How long from when I received them until I plant depends on when I get them and the weather. Usually I can plant the early or mid-April, so I order them to arrive about then. If the weather cooperates I can usually plant them directly in the garden since it's still pretty cool here but not freezing or snowing anymore, and the sun isn't very intense yet. But since the weather didn't cooperate this year I've had some of them potted up for 3 weeks now. I have nice windows in the garage so they get good sunlight in there and I just leave them there. I bring them outside into a shady place that gets a little sun during the day for about a week before I plant them. The only reason I keep them in the garage or house at all is if I can't plant them out right away. If you can find a place outside where they'll stay dry, but get some sun, they'll be happiest until they're well rooted. Once outside I don't do anything to protect them until the hottest part of the summer, and then I use shade cloth. I'm going to be planting mine in the ground this weekend.

Some people grow theirs in pots for a while before planting outside. I think it's really a matter of preference or trial and error. Whatever works best for you.

Thank you Chris. I appreciate your advice and will be able to do just that as soon as I move. Right now they are on the side of my shed in terracotta pots and are looking ok. They are getting morning and afternoon sun. I will give them a couple days and see how they do. I guess I didnt realize that I needed to be more careful with the newbies Im introducing into my garden. As Bev had said I am going to go in search of some shade cloth here this weekend and see what turns up.
