The only problem I ever had with a plant on your list was the deer absolutely loved to lie on the Loropetalum chinense / Chinese Witch Hazel. They didn't eat it, just used it as a mattress.

Great, thank you very much! I can relocate some of these to my mom's yard if I feel like it. I'll be leaving a LOT, but nothing that I just bought recently enough to want to try to dig back up.

Congratulations on your move… You'll have lots of room for your plants and many , many more of your favorites.

I ran across your list and it seems your entire list of plants are deer resistant except the Pom.
Sounds like a lot of digging.. and many shrubs on your list are well worth the effort.

With all the deer and elk, around here the only shrub/small trees I have trouble with are the weeping elms and Arbutus unedo/ strawberry tree. The deer keep them trimmed to their reach height from the ground.The deer tend to eat flowers roses, Lily's. ..well you know the drill. Nothing worse than lily stalks in summer poised with buds and over night the deer gobble them all.

The plant addiction will hit big time in spring…You are going to have fun planning your next garden.

Thank you so much, Bea! I appreciate your kind wishes! I'll have my son do most of the digging, free labor : ) Glad to hear the Portulaca plants are still doing well. I have some that are, in spots with tons of sun, and some that are just hanging on, waiting to get back outside.

Sounds like it's a good thing that I've not gotten into daylilies. I haven't lived where deer come into the yard before, it should be interesting.

Tiffany.. Deer can be a huge problem and they seem to know what plants are posuonous and which are yummy treats.
Sometimes when moving to another area has new challenges and brings new solutions. Daylily's will attract deer. I have given up growing them . I had planted them across the front , over 50 and I think there are only a few left . There are so many gorgeous daylily's I can wait to see what you have chosen.

A few helpful hits to scare the deer off.
I have a pellet gun no pellets but the noise from the cartridge scares them off.. at times a few paint gun pops …I chase them off on the ATV and pellet gun blasting. The big tractor works too, the noise scares them off. In summer a sprinkler motion detector over prized plants always scares them off.

Also early spring is when they arrive in droves.
Plantskyyd .and another product uses coyote and fox urine…both work well.

The best defense… is 'de-fence' at least 7- 8'….high…simple square wire fencing attached to T-posts. I use hot wire around the pasture which the deer run right thru.

Thank you! The deer will be welcome to come to the yard. They don't come into town and it is their home where I am going. Some fencing/cages might be needed for some things. Some motion detector deterrents, I'll have to learn as I go.

The easiest deer repellent is a dog loose in the yard.

The thriving metropolis will miss you - but at least you won't have to change your handle.

In addition, each item can be dropped into a web browser, adding "deer resistance" to the search term. Bear in mind, after the lean months of winter, deer will eat the tender new growth of just about anything, and in the rutting season, rub bark off trees and shrubs.

I'd rather have deer in my yard than coyotes. At least the deer leave my chickens alone. The only things the deer eat in my yard are hostas & mulberries.

I have had good luck with (both green and grey) Santolina, Rosemary, Euphorbia, Creeping Germander, Tagetes lucida, Narcissus.

Occasionally the Rosemary will lose a few branches here and there with them rubbing their antlers on them.
