I don't know why I bothered putting some of the leaves down. Old habits die hard, I guess. I did promise the kids I would scale back on having a whole lot of plants when I moved to town. And I don't go to club meetings anymore, since it's a little too far to drive. That, and those lovely folks just put too much temptation in front of a person, you know?

They look lovely, the leaf shape looks wonderful too! I hope we can finally get this gesneriad forum alive for a bit more... I think gesneriads are really interesting!


Do you know what variety that AV is? The leaf shape is intersting, I forgot what name it was called.... girl leaf? Something link that ?

@sedumzz, you are correct. It is girl foliage. As far as variety, it is probably Optimara something or other. It's a Walmart find that I couldn't resist, so it wasn't tagged. Has pink flowers with a white eye. I don't show plants, so I never bothered to check the Optimara database.

Nematanthus Cheerio has started blooming. The blooms are so cute! (PHotos coming soon)

Nematanthus!!! I used to grow that. It is such a cheerful thing to have around! Had lipstick plant, too. About the only gesneriads that I didn't enjoy growing were the episcias. Mine always looked a little straggly. There were a couple of gals in the AV club who grew them beautifully.

I've grown so many Gesneriads over the years. I've let them all go by the wayside with the exception of little Chirita tamiana, now classified as Chirita (Metapetrocosmea tamiana) and it's in bloom again.

It is so adorable! I 've seen them for sale, didn't get them though. Regret that decision LOL

Lin, you've grown it well! I always thought it looked like those had African Violet leaves with miniature Strep flowers. I didn't do very well when trying to grow it.

I used to grow them in terrariums where they did very well. I got my current plant about 2 years ago (bought it online from Hirt's Gardens) and it stays in the kitchen window.
