I've lost the tag, but I know it's a mini.

I love those colors too, could it be Crackling Fire?

Good guess, but that one's not on my HMF list, so I don't have it. I think this might be one I bought from John's. Their tags are more fragile than most of the others. It's still in a pot, so it wouldn't be on any of my landscape maps. I think I'd better start mapping the pots too. Those labels get so brittle when the weather gets hot.

You know, Sue, you really made me wonder why Crackling Fire wasn't on my list, because I could have sworn I saw it in my garden today. I went out to look, and there it was, right next to Hot Tamale, which also wasn't on my HMF list. I added both, but it makes me wonder how many of my roses never get added to the list.

Anyway, it isn't this mystery rose, because my Crackling Fire still has the tag.

I love my Crackling Fire, it's such a pretty color.
I have been trying to make a few new tags as so many of the ones are really brittle as you said. I did like those tags I bought with you at Ace Hardware, they were a wood grain and pretty thick so should hold up better than the thinner ones.

I guess not enough petals to be Busy Bee?

Busy Bee's another one I don't have, according to my HMF list.

Maybe it's just one of those Trader Joe Poulsen roses that never did have a tag.

No, Toni, but thank you for playing.

I don't own Fireworks and my Work of Art is so big and conspicuous that the loss of the tag wouldn't make me forget what it is.

Trader Joe's rose would be a good guess, I seem to remember getting one shaped like that and with those colors. It's wasn't much of a garden rose, wasn't meant to be so I eventually tossed it.

I have really good luck with them -- better, in fact, than I ever had with the Nor'East roses, many of which struggle along but refuse to grow really well.

The first thing I do with the Trader Joe's roses is remove them from the planting medium they use, which is full of moisture-retaining crystals. I shake off every bit of it before I plant the roses in the ground.

That's what I did with mine too and I left a few behind in the ground but a couple were spindly and didn't look good so I didn't keep them.

What is this Trader Joes? Never heard of it and HMF isn't showing anything about a nursery called that. Is this just the Trader Joe grocery chain?

Yes, the grocery store, they carry lots of pretty little roses, bulbs, orchids and various other temptations throughout the year right when you walk in the entry.

ah, we don't have those here. But I did pick up some awfully wonderful little orange/red stripey minis at Home Depot yesterday that I need to take pics of. They're REALLY pretty!! I know they're a KOR rose.. which should narrow it down to about 20,000,000.

OK, Zuzu, we give up.. what is it!! Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

I think it might be Minnelli. I've bought that one several times and I just noticed some others in bloom, also without tags but looking just like this one.

Home Depot sells Poulsen minis, not Kordes. The name is usually printed on the side of the pot. Most of the time it's an inner pot and they slip it inside a better-looking pot for retail sales.

You people have better stores! Our Home Depot rarely has any roses besides Knockouts and none of the grocery stores sell roses. I feel cheated!

Well, you are cheated if that's the case. Trader Joe's has the best plants -- gorgeous begonias and orchids and sweet mini-roses and other little plants, and at really reasonable prices.

Safeway has nice mini-roses too, and this year I got some gorgeous Clematis there -- all potted up and blooming for Mother's Day.

The Home Depots and Lowe's here carry a wide variety of roses -- not as wide as before, though. I haven't seen any J&P roses at Home Depot for a couple of years.

The best nurseries of all were in the Target stores, but they've been phasing them out in recent years to make room for groceries.

Zuzu - I'm gonna have to double check, but I swore that the pot said that this rose was protected by the following patents and they were all the KOR patents.

I've heard only good stuff about Trader Joes. It's unfortunate that we don't have them here. We have Sunflower Market & Sprouts, which, from what I've been told, is pretty close. We also have, of course, Whole Paycheck..er, Whole Foods, but I haven't gone there in years (can't afford it!!). And I don't really like Safeway.. they try to politicize and, basically, harass patrons as they're shopping/checking out (they were going to go on strike and trying to get customers to feel sorry for them because they are having to start paying for health care and they may lose their pensions and they get paid ONLY like $16/hr for cashiering.. wyah wyah.. sorry, off my soapbox now). I found Charisma & Blueberry Hill for the first time at King Soopers (part of the Kroger family), we lost most of our Albertsons but now we have SmartCo, which I *do* like. Smiling And I haven't been inside a Target in years.. never could find any help. Home Depot didn't have J&P roses this year, they had a different brand.. Archman? something like that. They also had another different brand and they've been doing quite well. Lowes had the J&P roses this year.

Here's that mini I got from HD 2 days ago. I need to put it in the ground tonight.

PPal - You shouldn't feel cheated.. you're so close to Tyler that you can get bazillions right from the growers! You're so lucky that way... I'd make it a two-three day trip if I lived that close (4 hours) to make sure I hit all the nurseries. Not to mention you have perfect weather for growing EVERYTHING!!!! Only thing I seem to grow well is weeds.

Weeds and fungus grow best for me, but I am glad our climate is almost without a winter. And you're right about the rose breeders in our area. My favorite nursery will special order from The Antique Rose Emporium and save me the trip.

I would like to have a Trader Joe's though.
