This is the magical section, emerging: dictamnus (fighting off the slugs), betony, mugwort, vervain, absinthe, fennel, clover, and some garlic here and there (need to add more this fall). In the background is the pie corner - strawberries and rhubarb - leftovers from when this was all veggies - with some tall lovage and elecampane in the back row. My voodoo guy has a candle holder in the back which is pretty cool on a summer night when the herbs have filled in.

Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing That's funny, that's the first thing I noticed too, the soil! So black compared to my red clay!

The garden is very nice. I'm so excited to be growing rhubarb again. So far it's doing fine. Not sure what the summer heat will do to it. We've put it in a raised bed close to the shade. This is all from my mother. My DH keeps wanting to harvest some and I keep saying, next year!

Oh Arlene - I envy your rhubarb - Love it but it doesn't do well in our heat either. Yours looks wonderful.

Fingers crossed it will thrive. Someone told me if I keep it watered once a week it should do fine. I'll report on it next spring!

I let mine go to flower when it wants, I rather like the blooms. It does cut short the harvest, but I'm really only good for a pie or crisp now and again, so it serves as a double feature for me. Mine is a nostalgic plant, given to me by my Mom from her fairly spindly plant that my Dad regularly tried to mow over - it grows very robustly for me.

Wow Deb - that is beautiful! I've never seen rhubarb blooms.

I grew up in Indiana so there was always rhubarb in my parents garden. It's my favorite pie.

We lived in OH many years after we married and had rhubarb but down here, it's not so happy. Too warm...

Yes, I do eat and freeze some . I like it better than my guys , so we don't
have it too often .
I too got the plant from my parents . they have about 8 plants it grows huge for them and they supply rhubarb to half the small town where they live.

My grandmother grew it because my father liked rhubarb pie. I never acquired the taste, which is good because Gramma was in Indiana and I am not. Big Grin

Deb, it is a serene, fun, lovely place you have there. Lovey dubby

The herb beds are starting to fill in - don't mind the tall grass, we've had so much rain no chance to get the mower out.

Aromatic section: Melissa, sage, lavender, lemon verbena, pinks, curry plant. Horseradish at the junction, with dill planted to the left but not yet coming up.

Thumb of 2013-05-31/Bonehead/45fcc5

Magical section: bronze fennel, absinthe, vervain, dictamnus, betony and mugwort (not very visible), garlic and oxalis here and there.

Thumb of 2013-05-31/Bonehead/862ea4

Relaxation station: poppy, valerian, blue vervain, belladonna, skullcap, catmint. If I can figure out how to get a marijuana plant, it will go in this section (legal in Washington but still sketchy on who/how it can be grown).

Thumb of 2013-05-31/Bonehead/a38e66

Still working on the rest, will post more sections as they get cleaned up and hopefully some of the whole garden (hard to get that all weeded and nice looking at the same time...)
