Love this one! Had it in the ground one year and this year, I'm going to take the plunge and plant it into a large container and see how it does.

Beautiful Salvia!

Marilyn,
I can't tell if the plants I have are the same as the photographs you posted. I thought these were 'Indigo Spires' when I purchased them last year. They are just starting to bloom now and the dark stems are very intriguing. None of the other salvias here have these dark stems! It also is the only salvia variety anywhere near blooming other than 'May Nights.'
Does this look like Indigo Spires to you? These pics were taken in the past week or so.

This may compete with 'Black and Blue' as being my favorite salvia this season!

Julie

Doesn't look like Indigo Spires to me. Looks like 'May Night' or maybe 'Caradonna'. You could put your request in to the Plant ID forum to be sure. Thumbs up

Thanks, Marilyn. I'm going to dig the labels out. It is definitely NOT 'May Nights' as I have that in other spots and it is definitely not the same. I should still have the labels.

Marilyn, thanks for mentioning S.'Caradonna.' Although that name doesn't ring a bell, mine matches all the images I've found. Think that's it! Thanks.

I tip my hat to you. Thumbs up

S.'Caradonna' was the first one that came to mind. I grew it before and that's what it looked like when I first saw your pics.

Glad I could help!

Finally got some more "Indigo Spires" going here. It has been moping along all winter, but is really taking off now.

I think I'm going to search out that "Carradonna". It's really beautiful.

I bought some of these on a whim. I planted them in a very protected area next to the house.. I bought them as annuals, but I'm hoping that with that microclimate that they'll come back for me. I love these guys.. they're like 3' tall and have spikes that were like a foot long!

Here's the database link. Sage (Salvia 'Indigo Spires')

I'm growing it this year for the second time. Here's 2 of my pics from when I grew it. The first pic is from this year and it's in a 24 inch mixed container of Salvias. The second pic is when I grew it in the ground.

Yes, the flower stems can be a foot long. Thumbs up
