I just have to complain to someone, so my fellow Texans get the complaints. Smiling

I am flabbergasted by how long this winter weather is holding on! We planted tomatoes and peppers last week (the latest we've ever planted) and now we're going to have to cover them tonight and tomorrow night! It's almost April and we're still dealing with upper 20's lows!

My peach trees are in full bloom and this heavy frost will ruin them, certainly.

It's too cold to work outside all day long.

It feels a little like we're being robbed of a nice spring. Sad

I agree with you Dave, this is very frustrating, don't you wish we could have made to order weather? Smiling

I'm frustrated too, I have to cover all of my seedlings tonight and cover some of my tender plants. Thumbs down I'm really hoping this will be the last freeze. Hopefully everyone's plants will be alright.

We're going to keep our fingers crossed here & hope for the best... We only have the tomatoes in thus far & there are too many to even attempt to cover. The peppers are all still in the greenhouse.

The wind here is wicked. Got everything watered this afternoon, we'll see in the morning.

It was 36° this morning. I had already planted out some of my plumerias, so last night I wished them well and left them out. The ones in pots, I brought back into the hoop off the patio. This morning they all look fine. The wind blew so hard yesterday, I thought everything would be dessicated. Leaves look a little ragged but nothing that can't be trimmed.

I hope all the tomatoes in Texas have made it thru the night without too much damage!

Our birdbath froze and the ground was white with frost this morning.

We covered all our tomatoes and peppers with an upside down 1 gallon plant container. We then covered the container with 12 inches of hay. I suspect they'll be okay. I'm going to just leave them covered for the next 3 days until the threat of frost is over.

I only have two tomato plant and they're in the hoop. They're the garden club cultivar that we're all supposed to grow, and enter our tomatoes at the
June Flower Show. I "grow 'em, but don't show 'em!" This year, I'm going to try again to have tomatoes to show.

I'm glad your plumerias are alright Sandi. Both covered and uncovered seedlings survived, so I'm happy about that. I just have to cover them for one more night, and then they'll have to be on their own lol.

Two more nights, Cameron. Tonight and tomorrow night both look plenty cold.

We got lucky last night, the temp never got lower than 37.2 degrees. Even though the tomatoes were all staked & tied, the wind did break 5 of them (we still have replacements if they are needed). Now if we can just make it through tonight... the forecast is calling for a low of 34 for our area.

Hopefully your tomatoes and peppers will be ok Dave. I'm glad we'll see warmer temperatures by the end of the week. I'm planning on planting the rest of my plants next week. Sam, its good that the temperature stayed above freezing there. The wind knocked over my potted loquat tree and broke one of my wind chimes.

Love that error message!!!

Cameron, the plumerias are fine. I did stop by Lowe's and they were marking lots of plants down because it was colder there than where we are. I came home with a trunk load! I know, I know, it's an addiction.

Hurray! That's great Sandi! Now I want to check the Lowes nearby to see if they have any markdowns. Hilarious!

They were just marking them down, and I saw hibiscus for $12.98. They weren't marked down yet, so I asked how much they'd be. The clerk said $6. I said I thought I'd wait, so he said, "$5. each and I'll take 'em to your car." And I took 'em. They'll be great for door prizes for our garden club Thursday night. Most of what I bought was random like Sweet Broom, a couple of big agapanthus, a large purple oxalis triangularis and a whole lot of Proven Winners for pots. The PWs were $1. each, so I couldn't pass them up.

Wow that's a great deal on the PWs. I have a small purple oxalis plant that has been in my garden for a few years. I'm guilty of neglecting it. That was so nice of the clerk to take them to your car.

Yes, it was nice. Maybe he saw me as a crazy old lady who buys dead plants!!! We're not getting a freeze tonight, but it's going to be cold. I have a mtg. to go to, but when I get home, I'll check and see if I've left anything out that might not like the 35° temp.

At least the plants will be given a second chance. I hope they reward you with plenty of blooms. You're lucky, its going to be 30 here tonight. Thursday morning will be above freezing thankfully and there is a chance of rain Thursday thru next Monday.

The continued cold nights are certainly inconvenient, but I am much more concerned by the lack of rain! We can't survive another 2011.
