Thumbs up Thumbs up Wow, that is a beautiful, healthy plant ... gorgeous! I've never heard of Sinningia insularia; there's one called S. insularis but it has coral colored blooms and the leaves are different:

Greg: I just love your plant, it's so beautiful, reminds me of the (related) Chirita plants I once grew. I grow a couple of miniature Sinningia's but they aren't doing real right now. I keep thinking I might try one of the standard Sinningia's and I love the color of the bloom on yours but everything I find for S. insularis shows coral/red colored flowers. Your beauty sure doesn't have the same color flowers as those below which are listed as S. insularis:

But, upon further searching I found this one, Sinningia 'Purple Crest' x self:

When I grew Chirita's I was drawn to the lavender/purple shades ... and I love the purple Sinningia's.

Hi Lin, thank you! The leaves look very much like your chirita! The other day when you sent that photo I thought that was what this plant is, then I found the label in the pot Smiling A friend who's a gesnariad and plant lover gave me this plant, there are several of us who meet up to see what we're growing, anyway, they gave it to me with the challenge of my trying to get it to bloom! (a friendly challenge!) I really didn't think I would, and was surprised to see these bloom stalks! Hurray! I tip my hat to you.

LOL, I've never been the best plant caretaker; in my house plants have to thrive on neglect. When I was young I'd kill them with kindness (overwatering) ... now I kill them with neglect!

Seriously though ... for me, I've found that a little neglect works. I grow everything in the same potting medium, rarely remember to feed/fertilize and I water sporadically. I guess it's good that I live in a humid environment or the poor plants wouldn't have much of a chance at survival. Green Grin!

That's how I'm trying to be since I've gone towards more succulents! Although these gesnariads seem like they like water!! Rolling on the floor laughing I water these guys a couple times per week! Glare
Cheers I tip my hat to you.
