I might be too strongly alkaline for lilies. Honestly, my lilies are in more danger from my big feet and bumbling around when they first come up. I've already wiped out a few of them Thumbs down .

It would be nice to have something to take out the eggs in the first place.

Have to get some ammonia. Thumbs up I tip my hat to you. Have been hand picking a few slugs every morning before work. I'm using cedar bark for mulch, and pathways this year and the slugs don't appear to like its splintery, fibrous texture. It also packs solid unlike the pine/fir bark I've used in the past. Hurray!

Love the photos Jewel. It is always rewarding to see them take off growing.

We planted up my daughter's stacking planter yesterday, so it is not filled in and draping yet. Can't wait to see it when it gets going. She will have to send me photos, as I go back home next week.

Today we will be redoing two of her large succulent containers.

I like that stacking container. I have never seen them in the stores here. Where did she get those? Love the pictures Lynn and Jewell. The season starts. Hurray! Hurray! I bought the new Fine Gardening container ideas magazine and was very disappointed.

Julia, why was the magazine disappointing?

Thank you Jo Ann. We still need to figure out something to grow in the bottom. It would have to be shallow rooted.

Lynn, so many plants for warmer zones and plants you never see in the nurseries. Also, I just thought many of the combos were uninteresting. They also had an article about creating an all season planter then didn't back it with ides. Just getting cranky I guess but, sure expected more from Fine Gardening Magazine.

I have been holding off posting because it has been so cold here this year. Usually I have my outdoor containers completed the week before Mother's Day but this year I did them the day before and then it was cold but company was coming and they expect them to be done. Green Grin! Even the plants were small compared to other years so it will be a couple of weeks before I take pictures.

The 6 large outdoor containers that sit around the barnyard and lane
have Lantana 'comara' and a pretty yellow hybrid petunia and a green and white coleus (pledtranthus) (sp?) . The color combination is very nice.

The boxes have a hybrid called Petchoa (terracotta), and Silver - Helichrysum (sp?). I will have pictures soon.

I have Maid of Orleans Jasmine, red bougainvillea and red mandevilla on the decks in containers. We have had frost just two nights ago. It has been a difficult time for those poor plants being outside these cold nights, but they are survivors and doing fine if the daytime temps get above 60. Have a great day.
