That looks really strange, almost like they developed as it was driving, spinning the ice into points.

First bloom on Molineux

I planted Geranium maderense ‘Alba’ 2 years ago, I had the more common pink one before, it's an impressive plant! This white one got massive, maybe 6 foot wide and 4 ft tall but no bloom. This winter it toppled, the stem was probably 3 inches thick so I whacked some of it out but left one stem laying flat because I couldn't pull it out. Meant to come back and dig it and replace it with another one I have in a large pot, the foliage alone is worth growing it! Low and behold, the top finally bloomed! Hurray! Glad I waited. It's monocarpic so it will have to dug up once it's done after all.

Summer Song is pretty intense in color, flash went off for this shot.

We are covered in ice today. Last night we had thunder, wind, hail and all kinds of ruckus. Today, it's ice ice and more ice.
I've lost a huge limb off my largest apple tree, which really surprises me since we keep it pruned correctly. I lost power for a short while, which was not unexpected. The lightning was intense!
Don't know if trees are falling from lightning, wind, or accumulation of ice, but the cracking noise of limbs falling is just creepy.
We were supposed to get above freezing today, but the temp is falling already. It's going to be in the 20's tonight.
The photo is my Hosui Asian Pear tree. Poor thing, it was loaded with blossoms. In the background, you can see a climbing rose with clematis vines that I have not yet pruned. Crying

Cindi - OMG, wow! I was watching that storm. It didn't develop close enough to the mountains to hit us here in the D-metro, but I knew that the eastern plains, NE, & KS was gonna get slammed. And everything was starting to blossom, which makes it worse!

It's not nearly as bad as it could have been, so I'm grateful. The shrubs and trees are about 2 weeks behind this year, so really the only trees that are leafed out are pears, peaches and willows,. Bradford pears in particular are very weak in ice storms. The newer cultivars hold up much better. Many of our trees were already weakened from the drought.
My roses are leafed out, and most have been pruned, so I'm crossing my fingers that this cold weather doesn't cause more die back.
We'll certainly learn which roses are hardiest! I cut hundreds of daffodils last night. I'll see if I can post pics of them somewhere since I have names for most of them. They were beautiful.

Cindi - Man.. I would be devastated. That's why I haven't even started my spring chores yet.. waiting to see some forsythias blooming. Once I see them going, then I'll start.

The brilliant sun shining through the ice-laden trees this morning is just magical.

You can see the roses under these trees are fully leafed out.

Wow.. beautiful. I don't have hardly anything leafing out. I'll take pix tomorrow (it's usually too dark by the time I get home at night). My yard still looks winterdead.

My crocus really mostly dissapeared because of all my garden redos. Last fall I decided I needed to replant. They are so very cheerful in the spring.
