I hope one or more of you can ID this guy b/c I'm not familiar with it's ID. Found it resting today.

Wow, Ann ... that is a beautiful shot! I've looked through my Florida Butterfly book and I think it might be the Summer Azure but I'm really bad at comparing photo's. I did a google search and found this:

Really close ID Lin & it was enough to get me to the correct one. Actually the 2 links have mis-identified the butterflies in their photos. Look at this:

And compare it to the 2 links. Interesting huh? BUT the info. on this link I posted gave me the clues as to which butterfly was a correct ID.

Gee, I really wish I could have seen it with it's wings open but I didn't wish to disturb it. But what pretty blue it is from above! This is one that's as pretty with wings folded as with wings open.

So glad I got you to the right place. I see it listed in my B'fly book which says it's infrequently encountered in Florida; typically relegated to the northern part of the state. It sure is a beauty!

I forgot to mention that pretty flower (Blanketflower/Gaillardia?) and I agree that you should add your beautiful photo to the database if you haven't already! I have two Gaillardia's that I bought from an on-line nursery; one named 'Oranges and Lemons', the other is 'Arizona Sun' and I love them and would love to have an entire yard of them ... if only I could convince my husband to get rid of all the sod/grass which I know will never happen!

Thanks all! I guess I should add that to the db. I have already put a few photos of that Gaillardia bloom in there but they didn't have the butterfly on the bloom. Not sure if someone will call me out for adding more photos of the same flower.

Well, if that's the case I'd be deleting probably more than half of the 2,000+ photo's I've uploaded to the database.

Whew! I discovered it wasn't one I had uploaded multiple photos of the bloom on so all is well with the world.
