Stush, that's a real wow-er! I'm wow'ed! Like wow.

Despite my best efforts to inadvertently (or outright?) kill this plant, it lives on. Around the end of May, I separated mine into 3 clumps and put them in the ground. They're in sun from about 10:30 AM until around 6 PM with occasional bits of shade from Cannas nearby. Working on building-up more "mulch" here to keep sand and dirt from splashing on them when it rains, which is actually happening a lot this summer. This spot was grass just a few months ago. Hope this ground vacation leads to really healthy and vigorous plants to start over with being in a pot (to save for winter.)

Such a lovely photo Stush! Many thanks for the cuttings and sharing the photo! Lovey dubby

Tiffany,
Do you have any of the other colors. I have several different kind now but most are just surviving. I have the red color and can't wait for that one to take off.
Tarev,
My pleasure. The more I give, it seams the more I get.

Just a photo update of my Stapelia.
This is for the first one given by Stush last May 2012. It has been growing nicely now, with daily watering it endured the recent heat wave nicely:
Photo today 12Jul2013 - the two new growth are now bigger and greener than the original in the middle.

And this is the 2nd one also given by Stush.

I hope it blooms for you. When mine does, the plant looks bad, like too much sun. Turning brown. But when it looks good, it doesn't bloom. Maybe it needs to be stressed out. End of October is when it usually does bloom.

Ah okay, I will observe how it wants it. Right now, trying to keep reviving the first one after near death last winter and getting the 2nd one its bearings on its first year in our garden. Big Grin

Someone sent me some cuttings a few years ago I did not know I had a red one until this year. I have a red bud. Hurray! I cannot wait to see the bloom.

The yellow has bloomed for the the last 2 years.

If anyone is interested in figuring out which Stapelia they have, this site has a few varieties pictured. They also specifically mention the root mealies, down near the bottom, as being the most common pest.

Mmmm - I hoping your red bud is the Stapelia leendertziae ".....is most conspicuous when in flower owing to the unique large, bell-shaped, deep reddish to dark purple flowers that are up to 120 mm long...." 'cause I know you're good enough to share pics with us!

My only Stapelia right now is the S. grandiflora, I believe. Just got it last year, hope to see it bloom this year.

I may have to re-name the red Stapelia I have; I love the one that doesn't open all the way and keeps the bell-shape but I didn't know the name of the species. Thanks!!

They persist, even thrive by many people's standards, but they look awful, and bloom less than they should...
I think I'm throwing them out this week! Grumbling

Sheryl, I will do more than share pics I love to share the plant.

Swayback, how long have you had the plant? I like the shape of the plant a couple of blooms are enough for me. Especially since they are not fragrant on the good side since I am not a fly. Rolling on the floor laughing

Hi Swayback...maybe it wants to be repotted? Blinking A new jumpstart for it just itself, without the other succulents. Sometimes my succulents go cranky, and a repot returns their former vigor.

No I typed up a very detailed description it took about an hour and then the page refreshed on my phone and cleared it all before I could post it... Not the first time that it's happened and very frustrating...
But it's ill, there's no doubt about it, ill get some better pics before I trash it, I'm sure had I just trashed it it in the first place I could have a beaming collection of them by now but I've just been avoiding them

STINKY OPENED!!!! and I have the proof it stinks because the flies did not move when I picked it up and put it in the chair so I could get a pick of the inside of the flower.

I did not put my nose in it to see what it smelled like and it is not a smell that I could smell just being near the plant. But I guess the flies can smell it.
