Susan, in my experience, the most important thing is to have the orchid shipped as short a distance as possible. When I googled "orchids in WI" I got this one first try. Says it is near Middleton.

All that being said, a phalaenopsis is probably the best choice for a "house plant type" but they don't ship very well, especially in bud. Unless you can get somebody to deliver it personally, maybe go for a cattleya or dendrobium instead.
I live in Florida so have umpteen nurseries close by that deal in orchids. Much as I'm tempted to order different types from California and other faraway places, it's just not worth the risk. Weather and rough handling are only two of many issues.
