~ Never figured out what this plant was for sure ... don't know what happened to the plant.

I was weeding in my side yard and found this little plant sprouting up in a flower bed and wonder if it might be Hamelia patens? My next door neighbor has a large one in his yard on that side of the house.

I am not familiar with Hamelia patens, but the leaves remind me of Itea virginica.. just a guess..

Myriam: Thank you so much for your response; the leaves do look a lot like those of Itea virginica which grows in my area and I will be thrilled if it turns out to be that plant!

I hope it turns out to be Itea virginica, Lin! It is a beautiful shrub and the bees are crazy for it! Smiling

I'd love it to be Itea virginica. It's very small right now but I'm going to watch it grow to see what it turns out to be!

Thanks Myriam! I photographed some Itea virginica a few days ago, but didn't know what it was, until you posted those links.
