What has been your experience with this cultivar? I have long admired it and am considering replacing my Jacob Cline which struggles with powdery mildew. Will I run into the same problem with Raspberry Wine? I absolutely love the color, but don't want to trade one problem in for another. I'm planning to transplant Jacob to my meadow and let it fight it out on its own, and plant Raspberry Wine in a slightly different location so it doesn't pick up whatever spores might remain in the dirt. Also, do you know how to sterilize or otherwise try to clean up a site that previously hosted mildew? My neighbor has Raspberry Wine and she hasn't had mildew problems that I know of (and perhaps she'll let me chunk some out...)

Haven't had raspberry wine but I love my jacob cline. And so do the hummingbirds. Guess I'm
lucky not getting powdery mildew.

I have a mix of many different monardas. None get powdery mildew. They are all in full sun. I don't believe I have Jacob Cline. So I say go for it.

I saw the 'raspberry wine' cultivar at my favorite local nursery the other day. I didn't buy it, but I thought of you when I saw it.

Here is a pic of some of my monarda. I have many varieties, all started from a mix from Johnny's. I love the smell of the foliage so much---reminds me of my dear mother in law whenever I smell it, b/c she loves Earl Grey tea.

It divides wonderfully.

I checked my plant database and realized I've been having problems with powdery mildew on 'Prairie Night' rather than 'Joseph Cline' - didn't want to give a bad rap to the wrong plant. Still keeping my eye out for 'Raspberry Wine' and moving my susceptible mondarda to a wild hillside - sink or swim. Here's the bad boy:

There is often a reason for their common names, and this one certainly lives up to it! I finally tracked down M. Raspberry Wine at Sunnyside Nursery in MVille. I don't think I've ever been to that particular nursery, which is laid out rather interesting - the perennials are on tables according to height and specific requirements - short bee/butterfly plants, medium drought tolerant, etc. Made it a bit of a guessing game trying to figure out where I might find my specific plants, but there were plenty of friendly workers to point me in the right direction. I think I prefer nurseries that set out sunny perennials alphabetically, much easier to see if they do or do not have what's on my list. But a pleasant foray nevertheless. Hoping this one is more disease resistant, and I absolutely love the bloom color.
